So I bought an opteka battery grip for a 40d back in the day. It kept losing contact couple months after getting it. So I replaced it with an original Canon grip. Putting it on one day, the wheel broke and is now spinning freely. The grip is now permanently fused to the body o_0

I want to get one for a 60d. Should I just look for a good after market version, instead of the overpriced OEM version? If so, what would be a proven aftermarket grip for the 60d?

I bought the Opteka one for the 60d. After about 10 times opening the battery compartment to remove the slide and recharge the battery, the little lock on the end broke off. It is very cheaply made and I wouldn't recommend it at all. If you can afford it, get the Canon.

I can't speak to the aftermarket units, but I have had OEM battery grips on both a 20D and a 5D since they were new. Never had a problem with either one, so as stiger said, if you can afford the OEM unit, stick with it.
