I just wanted to remind everyone to be sure to read the challenge descriptions and rules.

1) Got Milk in particular says "anything DAIRY".. so keep your minds, eyes, and lenses open.

2) This might be a good time to be sure the challenge rules are completely understood. It is a shame to see an otherwise nice photo get DQ'd for breaking a rule.

Thanks!

well, he is a cutie to be sure!
If it is a good photo, and you want to take a chance, go for it.
I was just pointing out the description says "anything dairy" so that people don't think it is just about "milk". Just .. think outta the box. :0)

Would a picture of a Dairy Air qualify?
:-)

DQ'd? In this case, would that mean "Dairy Queened??" Sorry, couldn't resist.

I'm a vegan. I don't consume dairy products, nor do I knowingly spend money on them. I guess I won't be submitting.

Edit: If only the description didn't say "anything dairy" I could have done soy milk, rice milk, coconut milk, or whatever. But I can't! Unless I lie about it.

That doesn't mean you can't photograph cows, or something in public. You don't have to own it to photograph it. You have friends? Family? They might have milk or cheese, yogurt or something. Just so you know you're not alone, I'm vegan too.

No... *pouts*. :P

I'm thinking about what I can do... It's just that half the reason why I went vegan is that I've always been a bit sickened by the taste and smell of dairy products, since I was a kid. Although it's hard to cut dairy out of your diet, the way most food is manufactured these days, and because restaurants LOVE putting cheese on everything, I really like living without it (and all other animal products, of course). It's hard to like the idea of photographing something that makes your skin crawl. A bit like the "garbage" challenge, really.

I think I'll just pass on this one anyway.

Only for our UK members, who can submit London Dairy Air...(NOT the same as London derriere...too bad I didn't think of that for Song Titles)

Sure you can use those...just label/title as "Vegan Milk" or "Substitute" or even "No Cows Were Harmed In The Making Of This Picture." If it were the right time of year, I'd look for a Monarch Butterfly on some milkweed.
The challenge is GOT MILK. The "dairy" reference should add to, not restrict, your possibilities...

Doesn't it mean it had to come from a cow?

I'd LOVE to do a creative photo with some soy milk. I have all kinds of cool images appearing in my mind. But that wouldn't be dairy :/.

I know of the "Got Milk?" advertising campaign, even though I'm not sure it was ever used in Australia. There are lots of references to it in all the American TV shows we get here. But even most milk advertising doesn't even use milk in their photos! They use something that's consistently white and creamy looking under their lighting conditions. I once heard of an advertising shot that used PVC glue instead of milk, for some breakfast cereal!

Ah well, I'll submit a soy milk photo, say it's soy in the title, and leave it up to the voters to be finicky about the challenge topic. I really don't want to use a non-milk product by stealth.

There are many places where the female mammal providing milk for humans is not of the bovine persuasion. I think the "dairy" qualification is to expand the possibilities to include the milking shed, stool, bucket, etc. I don't think it's necessary for the white fluid itself to appear in order to be adquately referenced...if the season were right I'd be looking for a monarch butterfly caterpillar on some milkweed. You could try and find a local synagogue and see if they have their dishes/cabinets labelled. You could just keep milking this thread for sympathy until the deadline runs out...

Puns are evil :P. And I doubt I'm getting any sympathy! Vegans are usually just seen as a particularly bad kind of fussy eater.

"A pun is the lowest form of humor, when you don't think of it first."

Besides, that's not a pun, it's a verb. And while I highly respect the effort it takes to maintain a vegan diet in this omnivorous McWorld we're in today, I'm not completely sure sympathy is in order, since you should ultimately save money, maintain your health, and raise your self-esteem...

I agree with GeneralE, go for it. Have fun and good luck :)

Lisae, I won't consider it lying when you use somehting else than cow milk as long as it's a "type" of milk (i.e. orange juice would be a bit far off ;-)). I think this is a good opportunity to make a photo with a more critical statement about cow milk.

In an amazingly ironic moment, I got a call from my doctor yesterday morning, just minutes after I learnt what this weeks challenge was, with the results of an allergy test showing that I am allergic to all dairy products and eggs. Prehaps a picture of my garbage can, with all the milk bottles, cheese and butter in it. Or an empty milk bottle next to a new carton of...soy milk (Oh joy. Lucky me).
