Hello everyone,

I have a known, reputable, magazine's photo editor inquring about a high resolution image of mine for consideration. Now I know that I should definately have the Hi-Res Image watermarked when I send it to them, but what is the best practice when it comes to this? How do you normally send the images to perspective clients when they are a publication?

Thanks for the help in advance.

I normally send without watermark and ask to give credit with name and web site, they should pay you if it's national publication. Your invoice should state image limitions.

check out this thread. it also references other threads and links. just keep digging and you'll find almost everything you need to know. do establish a value up front; depending on circulation and size of image, you could be anywhere from $150 to $1500 flush when you're done. good luck!

If it's a "known" magazine then you should find out what payment terms (if any) they would (should) usually pay in these circumstances, and include those in the license/invoice. Remember you are licensing a specific use, not "selling" the photo. A watermark should not be necessary if it's a reputable publication -- sending the hi-res unmarked image ought to increase the likelihood of it being accepted, since it's "ready to use" at that point.

Also, it's a PROspective client you're courting -- PERspective is a compositional element or way of looking at things ... :-)
