I am heading up to the Seattle area July 31- August 8. No definite plans. Staying with someone who is going to show me the best of the area. I want to go to Portland, Seattle, Olympia and the coast...

Any DPC members that want to meet up one day?

And what are the best things to do and see?

It would be fun to organize a Seattle GTG around your visit. Who's up for this?

Otherwise, PM me and I'll show you around.

Looks like we are going to be switching places Kristin as I will be headed down your way a couple of days after you get here and for the duration of your visit. I really hate to leave Seattle at this time of year- you should find really nice weather. Should a GTG happen before I leave I would be up for it if I can make the time. Even a meet up for coffee would be nice.

A short ferry ride to Vashon Island would be good, you can take great views of Mt Rainier with the beach in the background

I won't likely be in town if there is a GTG Pam. But you should definitely come down to the Emerald City to meet up with the folks if there is one- I'm sure they would be glad to meet you :)

Ok, it looks like the best day for me for a GTG is Friday, August 3. I'll have my friend drive me up from Olympia in the (early) morning... I'd probably be in Seattle around 8am.

The only problem is that I don't know where I'm going to put my luggage, as I am planning on having another friend from Montana meet me in Seattle in the evening. If that doesn't happen, I guess I'm winging it and will have to find a hotel for the night.

I've thought about renting a car for the day. That way I can have a place for luggage and if I need to find a hotel, I am mobile.

So, where and when are we meeting?

ETA: :-)

Hi Kristin,

Unfortunately I will be heading down to LA the day before you get here :(

I can help with your luggage stashing issue though :)
My office is located right in the central downtown area next to Westlake Center (5th Ave. & Olive Way). This is right across the street from where both the Monorail and the Lake Union Streetcar terminate.
I can leave a key to my office with a neighbor down the hall from me (they will be in at 8:30AM) and you can stash your luggage there for the day. As long as you get back to my building by 9PM when the front door locks (though you could still likely follow a tenant with a card key in) all should be good.
Just PM me if you would like to do this.

Hopefully other DPCers in the area will be able to meet up with you on a Friday.

While in Portland make sure to take the thirty minute drive to the Columbia gorge. There are a number of waterfalls you can see practically from your car including Multnomah falls.

I'll be down at Lake Washington on Friday to shoot Blue Angles and other planes for the air show. I'll be south of the pit area, if anyone wants to meet me there, let me know. The Angles fly at 1:40, but the air show starts at 11:20.
