Don't envy too hard.

$880 for a 1 gig stick? Nearly as much as I paid for the camera. Not likely to happen this pay check. If I ever dropped or broke the stick I'd have to shoot myself. Much rather pay the same price for about 22 128's, and have over twice the memory, less risk than having it all tied up in one stick, and a bit more flexible in usage.

$880 1 Gig memory stick. Best argument I've heard yet for Microdrives.

I have two 128mb sticks that I use in my 707. This capacity seems to be working very well for me. I have had my camera for almost one year and only ran out of storage one time so far... that was on a trip to the zoo.

I can get about 55-65 images at 5mp fine jpg mode on one 128mb stick. If you are shooting in jpg mode, a couple of the 128 mb sticks should do the trick in most cases. Sony, unfortunately, does not have a good solution for those who are shooting in TIFF mode...

The new sticks are supposedly faster. Which makes me wonder if they are faster in the camera too? I played around with tiff a couple of times, and the slow save times in my 717 along with limited storage, convinced me that it wasn't worth it. Perhaps I'd revisit tiff if the new sticks made a difference. Though I am still very unlikely to visit the store for a 1 gig stick.

For that I'd have to win the lotto. If I won the lotto, I'd be buying a pro quality digicam, and 1 gig sticks would still be the least of my problems.

i have 2 128s, and they fill up in no time. jpeg fine mode. i want the ability to take long videos and not have to haul around 10 memory sticks. the price they give you is always way off. i expect to see then cost little more than the CF flash memory at 1gig. oh well. i guess i can settle for the 2X128 cards. you only have 2 jim??? when i shot for the state fair around where i live i used a 512mb witch i filled up in a few hours and had to upload onto the computer there about 2-3 times a day with a canon EOS-D30. if i had the stick i dont think i would really need to take it out much so i would really have to worry much. i would really like to shoot in TIFF Mode all the time, too. oh well.

Buy an external storage unit, along with 2 sticks. For the price of 880 dollar you can have 100gig of memory and all the batteries you need to fill it. For my P1 I have a 64mb, a 32mb and an 8mb stick. It was not enough for the Le Mans 24 hours. :(

I shoot with an 340mb Microdrive in the Fuji. It got full only two times up to now, both at events. American Sunday car meeting and a MotoGP race. When that is not enough, I won't buy extra flash or SM, but a Delkin Picturepad (takes CF2 without extra card and can have a Firewire connection) or a Nixvue Vista. And that is only when I cannot take my notebook with me or don't want to worry about it being stolen. This will probably happen this summer, before I go on holiday. The APS camera (Canon Ixus Z50) I normally use is way down on quality compared to the Fuji and development costs are high.

Will the xSdrive not work with Memory Stick? If it will, problem solved for only about $200.

Does anyone know if this drive can be purchased without doing the internet order thing?

Yest it will work with the normal memorysticks, I don't think it will work with the new Pro ones yet.

Steve Digicams' review

"The VP-2030 lacks any kind of verify function after the transfer is completed"; That is something they should improve.

And be sure to check this page, because you have to be careful with fragmentated media. Could be that it is fixed already.

all the 707 folks just need to wait until the price of the regular memory sticks drops like a rock....then you can get 4 MS for less than $100.

do you really want all your pics on one 1 gig MS and risk damage to the stick and losing your pics???? or would you feel more secure with multiple sticks.

Me I would much rather prefer multiple sticks....

The price for 128mb Memory Sticks are down to $50 or less so it isn't a huge deal to me anymore. I have 3 of them plus the 8mb stick that came with the camera. That is enough for now. I agree that I would rather have several of the 128mb cards rather than 1 large capacity card. It just isn't any big deal to swap out a card once in a while. We used to do it 2 or 3 times as often with film. We haven't become that lazy have we?

maybe i will get an X drive... i just like the ability to not have to worry about losing/damaging a bunch of 128mb sticks, and the ability to shoot in tiff mode would be nice. also, the xdrive doesnt look like it would fit in my pocket very well.... :-/

Can anyone tell me where to buy an X-Drive? I cant find them on the web. I would like a 10GB X-Drive I think. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Check the links I gave in another post. They have links to resellers and the manufacturer.

why not just get a digital wallet for 400.00 or 500.00?
you can get 20 gigs and not have to worry about
a small stick..that cost twice as much.

Nikon had a great one that let you vew your pics.

You should consider insuring your digital camera, memory and accessories. I have insurance at replacement value of $1,400 of equipment for about $30/year. Talk to the agent who does your homeowners or renters insurance.
