Challenge: Holidays / Vacation

Text: On September the 28th (2003) you'll be allowed to enter your favorite holiday picture. Anything goes, as long as it shows holiday / vacation.

Timeframe: May/June 1st 2003 to September 27th 2003.

First announcement: May 1st 2003.

All other rules just as normal, voting time as well (1 week).

~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think this could be interesting, I would love to see what people can do on places completely unfamilair to them (or simply at home if they don't go on vacation) and I am also curious about the places. The wide timeframe allows almost anyone to submit something. I expect landscapes, portraits, cool snapshots, architecture, all kinds of live etc. It also allows for a break when you have been away well before the end of the deadline. :) And because you probably know up front that there is a challenge about this, it will encourage you to make better travel/holiday shots. The aim should be the travel destination itself, not the traveling.
The reason why I say Holiday/ Vacation is that I don't know what the most used word is, English is not my native language.
This could be done every year?
Tell me/us what you think!
Sounds like a great idea to me. I'm just about to book a holiday for mid-September so that'll give me ... ooh ... a week to sort through the thousands of shots I expect to come back with! Better book an extra week off work!
Okay then, just announce the challenge in September/October/whenever with a subtext "photos must be shot within the past year" or something.
Wonderful idea!!! And why wait until September/October to do this? Surely everyone has a photo from their last vacation already!!!
No no no no KimlnNB! :)
I don't have a photo yet, as I didn't have a vacation for 2 years in a row now. I am sneakily pushing this challenge so that I can look for a real cool and original place to go to this year, like the Gobi Desert in Southern Mongolia for example. :)
If this idea isn't accepted I am staying home! :)
No seriously. I think it is useful that the photographers know that there is a challenge about this before the submission date. It might make people more aware of how to enhance their holiday snapshots. Making composition and lighting a second nature. When I look back at my own holiday shots, there is a tendency to center anything, an avoidance of humans in the pics, bad lighting, shoot everything head on (not an angle that looks better) etc. And I simply didn't make enough photo's, because development and printing was so expensive.
I was in Washington DC 2 years ago at the Roosevelt Memorial. It was already dark, the heat was bearable, the mood was soooooo good and the place was stunning! I made three photo's (Canon IXUS Z50 APS Agfa ISO200)! Three!!!! A *@@^&@ shame, because it was such a beautiful place to be at that time of the day! With all the stuff I know now and entering the digital era, I would make at least 20 to 50 shots. And they would all be better, because now I am prepared.
But that is just one side of the challenge. The other thing is that it is nice to see all those different places and the way people see them. And I think it is something that we all can participate in.
