I have just been selected as the artist for the Artist-in-Residence program at Mojave National Preserve!!!!!!!!

Late last year I met Bob Killen (the man who created the AIR program with Linda Slater, the park ranger) at the camera store, where I was shopping. He overheard my conversation with the salesman and handed me a flyer for a seminar he was co-hosting, about the AIR program. I got goosebumps everywhere because I just KNEW I had to do this. About 40 people showed up. Even so, after hearing everything she had to say, and answering all my questions (which, as usual, were MANY), I just KNEW this was mine for the taking. I don't know why I knew, but I've been planning for the project since last year, as if it had already been granted to me. And now, officially, it has been.

I cannot describe how excited I am!

I'm quite jealous of your opportunity. I love landscapes like that, I could only imagine how great this would be to experience myself.

Thank you!!!!!! I'm seriously so overwhelmed right now. Both that I actually KNEW I got it and that I really DID get it!

@ Juliet - my collection is called "In-Accessible Beauty". Vague enough to give me leeway, but specific enough to please the selection committee :-) Obviously playing on the concept of park areas that are "inaccessible", and my being in them.

They're hoping to have my show in the summer, so I have to start shooting almost immediately. I want to spread it out over a couple of months to get different lighting/weather/flora/fauna in the park. Several areas have been intensely photographed already, but there's a back side of the park that doesn't get a lot of attention. I'll be coordinating with the park ranger and the program director for ideas/destinations. Plus I've already spoken to them about safety, etc. Definitely a camel pack, plus there's some sort of electronic checking in device (passive) which also pinpoints my location. I don't think I'll need any of this, but I sure do plan on exploring that park.

Yes, many CFs, batteries, etc. I also need to get an alarm clock :-)

Fantastic.you'll need to brush up on your survival skills, according to the brochure. Looks pretty hot as well- but then again, your only 50 miles from Vegas. Seriously, enjoy this!
