Hi all. I'm a straight ahead shooter. Don't have as much time as I would like to learn photoshop, so still pretty basic there. I would like to post, but shoot sporadically. I have my own file of best pictures, but nothing current, as in today, yesterday, last week. Is it allowable to post older pictures? Everything here seems so fresh, like people go out and shoot and post right away. Can I post a shot from 5 years ago? Just wondering how to get started.

Welcome aboard. Older pics cannot be entered in challenges, the exception being the yearly "best of" challenge for the prior year. There are many forum discussions and side challenges that are fine for using any of your previous pics. You need a paid membership to host any photos on DPC other than your challenge entries. If you use some other place to host pics, the convention is to use clickable thumbnails to keep the forum threads tidy. For example, this one of mine, which takes you to the Flickr page for it.

Thanks for the info and the welcome. Think I'll keep a low profile for now. It's a lot to get used to and my time is somewhat limited. The scope of what I've seen so far is pretty incredible. I mostly shoot what I see rather than create something to shoot, so I will probably get off to a slow start.

I used to be pretty much like you are, shooting what-ever while just relaxing. I find challenges, well, challenging because of the required discipline and time constraints but it gives you a reason to kick yourself in the butt, which is always good.

Hope you have fun here.
