Hello everyone... I've recently gotten bit by the photography bug again, after using a relative's D90 and seeing what it can do, and what can be done with it. So now I've got my own D3100 with a couple lenses and I'm having lots of fun, and learning a lot.

A friend turned me on to this website, and I signed up as a paying member this morning. I've already entered my first challenge to boot!

My question, for now, is... what's the Workshop for? And how is it different than the Portfolio?

Thanks!

The portfolio everybody can see. The workshop is hidden from view.

Oh and welcome to the site

Everyone can see what you put in your portfolio. No one can see what's in your workshop unless you provide a link. The workshop is good for hiding things you might want to enter but want an opinion on first.

Love that you're brave and jumping right in! Welcome.

As others have noted, the workshop is private. Many folks like to get opinions on entries before they submit them. They'll post it to their workshop, providing a link to those from whom they want feedback.

My Workshop has wall-to-wall shag.
My Workshop is clothing-optional.
My Workshop has an open bar.
My Workshop is more for play than work.

OK, so I figured out how to upload images to my portfolio. Is there a trick to sharing them?

Also, how do I upload a profile image?

Thanks!!

Hi Stacy, welcome!

On the menu bar above, hover over 'My Home', then click on 'My Preferences'. This is where you upload your profile image.

Have fun!

When you are composing a post in the forums, click on the third button from the right to place a thumbnail image of your picture, which will link back to the portfolio page. In the pop-up window, insert the image ID number from the very end of the picture's portfolio page (currently a six-digit number) -- you composition window should look like this, except with the square brackets instead of the curly braces used here:

Go here and look on the left side. Upload your pic (120x90 or 90x120 jpg) and click the save button at the bottom. You may need to refresh or clear cache to see your own photo on your profile after changing.

I refer to my Workshop as my "Laboratory". If it was ever unlocked, it would have serious health consequences for DPC. Every once in awhile, something escapes from there, but there have been relatively few casualties. If I ever get mad enough at everyone, I will make the whole thing public. Just a warning. ;-)

Welcome to DPC.

thanks Art! I think I got it!

Now... should I be concerned that the images actually getting comments are the ones I took a couple years ago with my Canon point & shoot? LOL

Oh I know... I've always been impressed with that little camera. I'm going to be shooting a freestyle contest in April, I can't wait to see how they turn out with a much more capable camera.

they will, better cameras and lenses dont take better pictures, they make taking better pictures easier.
