Entries for the annual Elk River Art show in Minnesota is due.

This is what started it all.

I've procrastinated, and I need to get my entries onto a disk and postmarked today.

I've narrowed it down to 9, but the entrance fee is pricey, so I need to narrow it down much more. If you have a few moments in the next 15 minutes, could you tell me your top 5 picks? Please post responses here, smugmug like, etc, doesn't seem to work very well.

Thanks heaps and loads!!

I like

1, 7, 3 the best followed by 2 and 6.

#1 - I like it for the colors, the simplicity and the narrow focus to the wildlife.
#7 - I like it for the texture and the contrast between the cat and apple. I like the subdued tones as well. This photo also is very focused (focused as in the idea, not the lens :) )
#3 - I like it for the simplicity and the fact that it looks like wings are reaching out of the water. Not the typical reflection because only part of the bird is seen...which gives it a difference sense than the norm.

#2 - I like it for the feel it has somehow something between Norman Rockwell and Ansel Adams. Simplistic, yet, it makes me feel as if I'm somewhere else.
#6 - I like it for the color and for the mirror like image across the focal plane interrupted by a similar, yet unopened flower.

I like 1, 7, and 3 over 2 and 6, because the first 3 feel a little more 'original'.

Wendy,

Personally, I think #2, #7 and #8 are the best. While technically good, the others are very "ordinary" in terms of their appeal, there's little to them that would make them absolutely stand out in a mass of entries.

Thanks, all!!

Going with 2,3,4,6,7,8

Only because I can't do 1 (I love 1!!) But it was so zoomed in, I just realized that I could only print it at 5"x6" :(

Not a '3' vote amongst 'em :)

My top pick is #4. Now you'll be alarmed about #4, no doubt.

Good title, upon which I cannot improve. But, had I suggested a scientific description title, it would have been, "Unihemispheric Sleep". "... A peculiarity that birds share with aquatic mammals, and possibly also with certain species of lizards (opinions differ about that last point), is the ability for unihemispheric sleep. That is the ability to sleep with one cerebral hemisphere at a time, while the other hemisphere is awake.[25] When only one hemisphere is sleeping, only the contralateral eye will be shut; that is, when the right hemisphere is asleep the left eye will be shut, and vice versa. ..."

Oh, well. More information than you wanted, but I always wondered about birds standing on one leg with their beak tucked into their scapular feathers. Now I've learned something.

You know why this is so hard? It's because ALL of them are great...pretty typical for you. Be that as it may, I like 1, 3, 4, 7...but the elegant simplicity of 3 really pulls me in.

Gosh all golly, Wendy, you're a hell of a photographer.

I see I'm too late now, but they're all great. For me #8 is probably the best - although I am shocked there isn't a squirrel image among them =). The only one I wouldn't have entered is #3 which I don't find very special - it's a nice photo, but I'm sure anyone that's tried to photo egret's in the past will also have one just like it.

For me #7 is already in my favorite pics. And I am still looking at it and find each time something new and absorbing. Not to mention the superb processing.
#8, while it might have mass appeal, but for me is deja vu and thus lacking interest. The rest are great pictures.
