I dropped a Mamiya RB67 with a 90mm lens into the cooling pool at a nuclear power plant...

After that and for the next few hundred years, it's considered nuclear waste. Damn.

Gee I was sure it was going to be that big ol' rolling log that did the deed. I guess the lesson is, do not leave your camera alone while shooting waves in the tidal wash? I did not think that was a lesson that needed to be taught, but I guess I was wrong.

This almost happened to me about 6 months ago...i was out shooting a seascape and a gigantic piece of seaweed washed ashore. As it was receding back into the water it got tangled behind my legs and was dragging me in. Thank god i planted the tripod into the sand as hard as i could to avoid it dropping while the water was going all around it or me, the tripod, and 5D MK II would have been toast :O

There is a reason why people are told to watch the ocean for approximately 20 minutes before approaching the water...waves come in sets.

He says in the comments below that BH is replacing it for him. Why would they do that?

I think she was joking. Texas has been in a drought. I think the water was deported to Mexico or something.

I had my a section of my camera bag fill with water very close to that beach a couple of weeks ago. I set my bag down on what I thought was a high enough rock, removed my camera from the lower part of the bag, left the bag open (I was only going to linger for a moment to get a shot), and the next wave or swell just kept rising and rising.

I quickly grabbed my open camera bag before the water could pour over the rest of the dividers where, among other lens, were my Nikon 70-200VR and my Nikon 28-70 f2.8 lenses. I poured the water out of the bag and had to thoroughly wash the bag to remove all of the salt.
