How should I crop it, and any suggestions for future macro shots...I'm still a newbie at all this photography stuff, so explain everything :)

I would think you'd want to crop just above the three leaves above the flowers and crop in close to the rest. But then, I'm new to this also.

Nice shot. Purple in sun is hard to capture. Did you try to use a digital unmask to sharpen it and make the colors pop?

That is the pure shot, unedited.

As I said, I'm new to this, but the lighting was perfect. It was sunny, but slightly, this was in a corridor leading to a front door that was partially shaded.

I'd get rid of the smaller one and concentrate on the large one in a pretty tight crop.
Just my opinion of course.
nice shot.

I cropped & rotated it & noticed there was a major blue hue to the whole thing...so I made some adjustments too, till it looked natural to me. Hard to guestimate the real color of the flowers, but you get the idea. Just went by eye...you judge whether you like it or not since it's your pic ;)
Don't know if your camera has a white balance control....if it does, you might want to look into it to cotntrol the color cast.

Interesting choice with the rotate. It naturally hung down, and it was actually purple :).

I like the rework though, thanks!

I prefer it with the second flower included and have done a quick crop to show the idea of putting the main flower on the thirds line and balancing it within the frame with the smaller one.

Let me know when you've had a look and I'll remove it from my portfolio.

Some interesting interpretations. This is what I saw.

And my take was kind of like that too ...

Very different ideas!

Thanks for the input, I think i will keep the second flower in the bkg, I like the natural hang and coloring :)

When in the flower contest? :)

If feel it needs some space to left and bottom, but otherwise could do with a tight crop.

This pretty much what I'd do too - though maybe not so tight on the flower on the upper left. The two blooms balance each other quite well on the main diagonal of the shot giving it much more flow than just cropping in tightly on one shot - which is a bit boring really.

Possibly when shooting it might have been better to either crop more tightly, or a bit looser, so that the stems from the rear flower join the line of the front flower - creating more a of a triangular shape, with the implied line between the flower heads and then the actual lines of the stems. That's a bit truncated at the side of the frame now.

Gordon, funnily enough I just came back to this post and, before reading your post, was about to say that I'd cropped a touch too tight at the top left corner and would just add a little more space to the top and left!

I wish I could say great minds think alike but I think I have bluetack for a brain.
