What is the a good printer to use for an event that I am shooting.
Taken, that I plan on taking my laptop with Lightroom to crop and have them ready by a given time.
What printers do you recommend? |

I'll be watching with interest. Event photography is a large part of what I do but everything goes to my website for sale. I sell vouchers at a reduced price for those who take the plunge and pay on the spot, but they still have to go to my website to pick their photos and redeem their vouchers.
Sales would surely be improved by the ability for me to print and sell images at the event. Whether this would work well or not would depend on the increased income compared to the cost of implementing this system. I would also have to consider that I would have to hire someone to process and print the images since I can hardly find the time to collect money and shoot at the same time.
I was busy yesterday trying to do both and I certainly wouldn't have been able to process and print on top of what I was already busy doing. |

it depends on the type of event you are shooting as to what type of printer you'll need and how much you'll have to pay. some printing systems don't cost that much to get into (<$300), but are limited in terms of print sizes and horsepower. if you want more, you'll have to pay (>$1500).
event printing has a decidedly different workflow than making prints for clients, and it's definitely not something you want to do on your own (at least not starting out). depending on the event, i've had as many as three printers cranking and five people helping. pm me if you want more specifics. |

| Help me to understand the challenge here... If you want a good printer at an event, why not just use a good printer at the event? Create a "printer cart" of sorts, and then plug that bad boy in.... If you need remote power, a 12V battery, or a car are great with an inverter... *shrug* Just not sure why that wouldn't be the better option. |

maybe try that yourself and you'll come away with a better understanding. just for grins, put together a rig of your own devising and head out to a local halloween extravaganza next weekend and offer prints on-site. just make sure there are going to be at least 100-200 people that you can photograph and provide prints - and do it all in two hours.
there's a LOT more to this than a "good printer" and remote power... |
