In the last weeks here on DPC we are frequently talkin' about Christophe.

But no one thought of asking him some questions about his photography. Well, I did :)

Here you can read my interview to Christophe for the biggest Italian Photography site, Photo4u.

There are one interview in English and one translated in Italian (the English one is below).

Enjoy the read ;-)

Ciao
Alex

Thanks Alex, nice work. Also thanks to Christophe for being so frank and open about his art.

Yes, thanks to you both. Great interview.

Great idea. I'll read that tonight when I get home.

Just wondering though, a Frenchman interviewed in English and then translated into Italian. Wonder if anything was lost along the way :)

..and in which language did you actually conduct this interview?

A big thank you to Alessandro, to allow my stuff to be featured on this website :-)

The interview was conducted in English (well, *my* *limited* English).

I was just being silly, your "limited" English is far better than many people I know who supposedly speak it natively!

Great piece, thanks both for putting it together, it's always great to read something like this from another photographer, particuarly one with your ability!

Was starting to become a fan of the photographer/artist. Reading the interview changed this process all of the sudden.
Difficult to explain, but suddenly I'm not becoming a fan anymore...
I AM one now :)
Nice to see how Christophe proceeds in the development of a work, how he thinks it over, how it gets realized in his mind...
When I see that for most of the challenges we have only around 7 days...

Châpeau Christophe - t'es un vrai maître.

That's what a translator is afraid of all the time. But my studies in my life were to make translations (even if now I'm working with videos) and considering that we both have a neo-Latin language, I guess it was easier. Moreover Christophe has a very good English (in our countries, Christophe, you know, not so many people know very well English), I guess better than mine.

If you find any mistakes please tell me and I will correct them :)

And thank you Christophe, you've been very kind and many Photo4u users sent me prvate messages to tell me that the interview was great.

Last but not least, thank you DPC guys! :)

"I started it in June 2009. Before that date, I had no camera, zero processing skills, no knowledge in general about creating picture in any way."

I now feel like a very slow learner. And a little lazy!

Amazing really.

I will look forward to reading this interview later as well- thanks for posting it :)

While we are talking about Christophe and his very quick learning curve I will share with all (don't think Christophe will mind) a quote from his response to being asked to be the last person to join the Jawbones team for the DPL2. Christophe: "... and I just got my first camera ever 10 months ago, so bear with me :-P"

Yes and we "beared with you" all the way to the finals Christophe ;) You were a great teammate, and it is so nice to see you get notice for all your hard work and talent :)

Same here.

But I know why. He hates me. 'Cause I do all the things he despises, each and every one. I'm lost. Canon for sale.

And, Damn, he is brilliant.

Good interview.

i dunno man, that interview seemed pretty kitschy

"Doing photos without a full knowledge of the technique is a bit like writing an essay without knowing all the alphabet's letters."

I take that as inspiration; it makes me want to learn more, do more, be more. Nice interview.

Great interview. It couldn't have been better even if he planned all the details beforehand ;)

I made this comment on one of his photos on his Flickr account a while back...

"I have been looking a lot at your work lately.. (Here, DPC, and 1x.com)
Might I say, you are perhaps my favorite photographer as of right now. You have so many photos of every genre it is nuts! Not only that but every one of your shots are stunning. Well done on this one as I think this is now my favorite of your photographs."

I was commenting on this (on flickr not here)...

I stand by this comment today.

Truly one of the greats.
