I still need a good business card design. I haven't come up with anything I like yet.

The requirements are:

The logo must contain the letters "JMS".

The card must contain the following:

John M. Setzler, Jr.
Photographic Arts

4340 North Center Street #501
Hickory, North Carolina 28601
828.267.5763
john@setzler.net
//www.setzler.net

The design dimensions should be:

2 inches by 3.5 inches @ 300 dpi.

This must be a two color card. All of the ink must be one color and the paper/background must be another color. No photographs on the card. The card should not be 'busy'.

The winner may pick from the following prints:

//www.pbase.com/jmsetzler/win

These are 8x10 prints matted in 11x14 mats... all are signed.

Submit a link to your design in this thread by Sunday, July 31 at midnight. The winner will be chosen on the following Monday.

Thanks :)

I think you may want to edit the photographic arts bit John :)

John, just to clarify for others...

Are you targeting a particular audience or field (portraits, weddings, etc)?

How will your cards be printed (thermography, offset, inkjet, etc)?

Is the photo restriction yours or the printer's? If this is a print consideration, then shadows, gradations, tints and other halftones should be discouraged as well (line art only). Note that a good mezzotint can be very effective with cheap printing processes.

Is bleed permitted, or should the artwork be contained within a margin?

Are there any colors you favor (or hate)? I'm guessin' pink is out.

Do you prefer a horizontal or vertical format? Horizontal is standard, but a good vertical design can help separate you from the accountants.

If the design includes a cat, will it still meet the challenge? ;-)

Good luck!

No particular target audience... They will be either offset or thermograph cards...

Full bleed is OK... I will choose a printing method that best suits the card. No halftones.... any color choices are fine. I can change them if I don't like the choices but like the card... vertical format is very cool but I can go either way... There should not really be any artwork on the card other than the logo. I would prefer the logo containing JMS to be the only artwork. I would actually prefer creative use of just JMS to make up that logo as well without including any other art.

Anyone know how I can create you a link to something created in Publisher?

Press print screen, paste into a photo editing program, and save as a Jpeg. Then you can upload it to the internet somewhere :)

Okay - thanks. Giving it a try.

Hmmm. I've managed to paste into Photoshop, but can't save it as .jpg!

To have jpg as an extension option the image must be in 8 bit mode. Choose Image > Mode > 8 bits/channel. Once you've done this, save as will allow you to select jpg.

You were quicker than me.

John I decided to take you up on your challenge. I know you only wanted 2 colors but I really think you should consider my design. I has 5 colors but I think you'll agree it's worth the extra printing cost. You'll have the most badassest card of all the photographers in Hickory. Please email me for my mailing address for the prints.

Thank you for your consideration.

I noticed it too after hsteg pointed it out, on the web site at the bottom of the card, you forgot to put the "t" on the end. its an easy mistake to make but you still made it and I jsut wanted to calarify what hsteg was talking about.

Hi!

Here's my contribution, I think it's more like throwing ideas in the pot than actually submitting anything officially. If your like one of them or only the logo or whatever, take it.. and if you do, keep your prints! ;) It's not that I don't like your photography, but I just won't have any use of 8x10 prints of these kind of pictures.

As I said, I'm sending my ideas hoping it can inspire someone to create something nicer.
