I went to the Zoo today and i have this picture what crop do you like better. Not sure what one shows more emotion.

I like the photo that is not cropped. As emotion goes..both have it,but as alwayse when you see a photo with just a face or head. You tend to wonder what the person or animale is thinking.
Great shot !

I prefer the crop; it's very emotive and spare. Nice work!

I prefer the close crop, as one option at least. The full version includes some redundant information, the close one excludes the supporting right arm though, which is or could be an compositional element in a third cropped version.

While I enjoy the ample negative space and the way the light outlines and illumines the animal, I regret that it doesn't reveal even a single eye.

I prefer the close up for a couple of reasons. The composition is simpler and more striking.
(I like simple compositions) Also, you can't tell where the ape is. In the more open crop, the tree with sawed off limbs says "zoo". This narrows the context of the image.
The close up, with its moody black background, could be anywhere, even in the wilds of Africa.

I like the first one, the vertical crop, best of the two. But both are pretty dark. Why don't you try adjusting curves just a little to see if you can bring out more detail without changing the character of the images much. Other than being too dark for my taste they are fine shots.

Close crop for all the stated reasons.

Good capture by the way.

I like the close crop. The other says zoo to me.

I think you made the right choice with the crop but have you tried it longer? I think having the full arm and fist in may work well. You may want to try dodging around the eyes too. The high brow ridges of gorillas makes it really tough to get the eyes in.

whichever one you choose you you should use more contrast.

Moodville is the expert on this one. I'd go with her recommendations. ;-)
