OK, this may be a really silly question, but I cannot figure it out. How do you actually add frames to your pictures ? Say like the one in the blue ribbon winner of Freedom II challenge:

Well, I would imagine there are many ways to do it, and I'm sure that I don't know the easiest or most efficient way, but what I do is in PS (I have old version 6.0), I go into Image>>Canvas Size and choose a border for the picture. Usually I pick in terms of inches, and it's typically 1/4 to 1/2 an inch if I add one at all. You can pick a color if you wish. I think the later versions have more options. But that's what I do, anyway. Good luck in your search for assistance! :o)

I use the "Add Margins" command in GraphicCoverter on Mac OS X.

I'm certain Photoshop has a similar command, and most full-featured programs for Windows or Mac will.

Here's how I could create a border similar to the one heida used in that shot:

Step 1) Set the background colour to black.
Step 2) Add Margin - 1 pixel on top, bottom, right, and left of image.
Step 3) Set the background colour to white.
Step 4) Add Margin - 10 pixels on top, bottom, right, and left of image.
Step 5) Set the background colour to black.
Step 6) Add Margin - 1 pixel on top, bottom, right, and left of image.

That's it!

Russ

P.S.: I'm pretty sure this topic has been covered elsewhere in the forums before -- if you didn't this time, next time try searching for some pertinent keywords, like "border" or "frame" and you'll probably find what you're looking for.

to make a border like the one u pictured, in photoshop i select the whole image using the rectangle selection tool, then right click within the selection, choose "stroke" width 1px, color black, then do a canvas resize, then repeat the first step to create the outside border.

Thank you everyone. I have been enlightened. ;-)
