Looks to me like good 3D modeling rather than photos. though in the thumbnails they can fool you, it is evident at full size. |

It's honestly quite easy to do these things, and there are communities built around them.

a lot of it is just creating a cool looking blob or 7 in a 3d rendering program, combine them into some organic form in photoshop using blend modes, and then using colors & blending modes to heighten details.
