I've noticed that developing an interest in photography has really changed the way I view movies. What are some of your favorite movies that you especially noticed or enjoyed the fantastic camera work?

One of my very favorite movies of the year so far was Girl With a Pearl Earring. I was on the edge of my seat thinking, "yes, that's perfect" during so many of the scenes. Just absolutely beautiful! It was nominated for the Best Cinematography award but lost to Master and Commander, a movie I never saw but it must have had great camera work to have robbed Girl of the Oscar.

Amelie and Room With a View are a couple of my other favorites with nice cinematography.

Any recommendations from you?

I liked the cinematography of Far and Away.

...and Dances With Wolves, and Titanic, and Schindler's List, and Glory, and...

sorry, shutting up now.

Baraka! A movie that is photography from the first second till the last. I belive is a must see for anyone interested in photography. Theoreticaly it is a movie, because it is motion picture, even if it has no actors or any action, nor is it a documentary, just superbe images and music, anywhere you stop it, you get one hell of a picture. Amazing stuff. As they say on that site, the ultimate visual experience!

PS it's filmed on 70mm the image quality is stunning!

There is also Koyaanisqatsi trilogy wich is about the same thing, I only seen one of those, but I like Baraka more.

Pretty much any David Fincher movie (fight club and panic room especially stylish).

one thing that sticks in my mind as briliant photography is the first quarter of 28 Days Later - astonishing filming...

underworld had a matrix-esque style which is visually very pleasing (as is kate beckinsale, of course...)

To me it's 'The Man Who Wasn't There'. Absolutely love it!

Thelma and Louise. I really enjoyed all the subliminal messages portrayed through the choice of scene and camera work.
The worst photographed one I've seen in the last year is Mystic River.

My favorite has to be Natural Born Killers. It may not be everyones taste, but the camera work was fantastic and unique.

actually, that's a fantastic choice - just bought it in the last week for five quid as it happens. i didn't love the film per se (story-wise i thought it was a bit "so what") but it is one of the most beautiful films ever. every frame is just perfectly gorgeous. the wife thought it even made billy bob thornton fanciable...

Well then let this be the sequel..

One of my favorite movies regarding cinematography has to be The Ring. Superb visuals and camera angles! I was far too captivated by the camerwork that I had to watch the film several times to get the story. ;) I've always wanted to do a series of photos inspired from that movie, complete with the bluish hue/white balance.

The Horse Whisperer

You can stop the movie at just about any spot and have a perfect picture.

One of my favorites is Black Rain, it has some neat shots from japan. They had alot of trouble shooting that movie because of restrictions japan had with filming bt what they were able to get was really cool. Its an older movie but its still one of my favorites.

I once saw a short clip where a photographer's girlfriend got into his darkroom and accidentally spilled chemicals on her eyes that made her go blind. Throughout the clip you see various shots of him using a Nikon SLR and also riding a Sport Bike. In the end he gives his eyes to the girl so that she can see again.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this? I have no clue what it's title would be.
