So I just figured I'd post a minor nervous freak out post and then update later. Off to shoot my first wedding, thankfully they're extremely understanding and know it's my first. They also weren't going to have a photographer originally so its a bonus for them and a huge learning curve for me.

Second Fun part. It's a beach wedding...and its now raining. I've received two phone calls so far this morning. The first saying its going to be inside at the reception which has possibly the worst indoor/window/lighting set up I've ever shot in (no bounce flash even remotely possible), the second saying we're going out under a tent.

Out come the rain sleeves, jackets and a few prayers....

Oh yeh another wrench...same sex couple..Should make posing a little interesting and non traditional!

Wish me luck I need it. Will update after...

That's got enough to potentially go wrong that you can't help but have fun! Just make sure you have on comfortable underwear. :P

Well, you will have lots of learning experiences with this one!! :) It will be fine.
Like you said...they know it's your first, they weren't even going to have a photog originally and now they will have photos. They won't be NEAR as critical of the shots as you will be so, relax and just have fun!!! Use your flash dialed down (if you have an off camera flash). I semiopaque plastic glass over the onboard will diffuse the flash if necessary. Shoot raw and you'll be better able to "fix" exposure, etc. if needed. And most of all....I don't know what the hell I'm talking about, so wait for the big guns to weigh in, lol.

You'll be fine!!!!

UPDATE TO WEDDING DAY FREAK OUT

So yesterday went very well. After that post I got another call from the family saying they were going to be doing the wedding in the reception hall again (the one with bad lighting).

Anyway I went to one brides house and I sent my dad who was the second shooter to the second brides house. The family was a riot, i felt like i was part of their family by the end. All the getting ready shots were a blast, i've not gone through them all yet but there are a lot of good ones and keepers in there.

The trip to the hall was interesting. I got dropped off and went inside and because they moved the wedding inside and earlier than expected there was NOTHING SET UP. Not really my issue, but i pitched in with everyone that was there to get the details set up and done. Helping to put up lights, set up decorations, etc... It was a mad hour while they all drove around. So right before the wedding began the minister dropped the lights in the room making the lighting even more of a challenge. Anyway I fired away and managed to overheat the SB-900 just after both parties and brides came in. Thankfully i had a second on my back up that I'd slung so i popped over and shot the ceremony. It was hard trying to find a balance between not blinding and overwhelming everyone, but also trying to capture the key moments.

Luckily the rain held off for a couple hours in the middle of the day and we managed to get the group and wedding party shots outside. Then back to reception to get the fun stuff.

It turned out to be a long and tiring day but it was an absolute blast. The family bought us a drink and wanted pictures of us with the brides. We got all the shots they asked for with no major hickups or malfunctions. I'm incredibly happy. For those wondering it helped a lot having two GORGEOUS brides getting married. Now the long and tedious part, going through all the pictures to PP.

Good news though, out of shooting this wedding the sister asked me to shoot hers at the end of July.

For a first wedding and some adverse conditions, I couldn't be happier and neither could the family.

Wow, congrats! I have such a fear of shooting someone's wedding, it's unbearable. I've turned down people in the past because I'm so afraid.. it's ridiculous. I am glad to hear you did well! Can't wait till you show us the beautiful brides! :)

It sounds like a most excellent experience! Congratulations!! If they don't mind, post a few when you get a chance.
