I am seriously in awe about how many DNMC photos there are. Makes voting easier though --- (not participating)

Ok people -- you need to read the challenge description!!

"Capture objects in the air. Use a fast shutter speed to .. [more] capture objects off-the-ground in an unusual way. Through your camera, photograph the world in suspended animation unlike you normally would."

I read the challenge description and am being told my shot is DNMC. So what does the description mean then?

Basically something jumping, something falling, something thrown or otherwise suspended in midair that would require a fast shutter speed to capture.

I'm not in this challenge, so I have no horse in the race. What I took the challenge to mean is capture something being tossed, thrown, hit, etc. into the air that normally wouldn't be in the air and do it without motion blur. For example, things that are airborne by nature don't meet the challenge. And of course this is only my interpretation. I haven't voted, and probably won't.

edit: to not violate forum rules...

I figured that some might go with this direction. Is it the "fast shutter speed" that implies the jumping, falling, thrown etc. stuff? To me, if an object is already flying in the air, or somehow naturally in the air, it meets all of the requirements of the description.

Let's say you want to capture a plane or a bird flying. The fast shutter speed would certainly help and give the appearance of something suspended in midair. I guess I want to know what leads people to think that you had to put something in the air that is not naturally there.

The description... photograph the world in suspended animation unlike you normally would. Just my opinion, like I said.

The description says:

capture objects off-the-ground in an unusual way

To me a plane or a bird in the sky is not off the ground in an unusual way, it's the usual way.

Have to agree. Lowest overall score I have ever given I think. I'm not in this challenge.

To me the challenge said to capture the subject in an unusual way. I didn't read anything that said the subject had to be something not generally found in the air. I will vote with respect for the fact that there was room for a difference in opinion here and I hope everyone else will too!

Ahh Karen - when you single out the words like that I can see the other interpretation. That makes sense.

However, my interpretation fell inline with Penny's. And I agree with what she said about voting :)

I don't mean to be a pedant, but let me break this down:

"Capture objects in the air. Use a fast shutter speed to capture objects off-the-ground in an unusual way. Through your camera, photograph the world in suspended animation unlike you normally would."

Connect the bold and you'll see that it's asking for action from the photographer, not that the object be unnatural to the air.

Once again it's horribly worded. Of course everyone has their own opinion; but if English grammar rules are to be followed, that is exactly what it means.

Reworded to mean what most think it means:

"Capture objects in the air. Use a fast shutter speed to capture objects that aren't naturally/usually/typically off the ground. Use your camera to photograph objects in unnatural suspended animation."

Edit: Running the challenges by an editor wouldn't hurt. You like ambiguity in art, but every week it's a battle of semantics.

You're such a pedant... :) I like your challenge description better. Makes much more sense. Maybe you should offer your services to the challenge writers :)
