Just browsing around the site and ended up looking at old comments. So I thought it would be fun to post your first comment left for a picture.

Here was my first;

Comment:
I really like the look and texture of this picture. It just screams "moonshot" at me, even before noticing the title. Nicely done.

I was a bit more harsh with my first comments than I am now I think.

.............I find the large rounded object distracting, it is a lot of empty space that doesn't add to the photo.

"There is no motion here, just a short DOF"

This was the brown of the challenge, they haven't come back since :(

I actually didnt sound like a newbie way back then, still didn't know crap and still don't...

"I love the crispness/Sharpness of the eagle. I like being able to see the eyes with such clarity. Just my opinion, but I think the background could have been a bit more out of focus. I think it takes away from your otherwise great image.

Nice shot, Thanks for Sharing.

"Sometimes black and white just makes a statement that color could never make. Nice shot."

"Nice effect, and subtle coloring. What was the surface this was shot on top of?"

"Very nice Pic Great colors and lighting!"

At least I didn't embarrass myself ;-)

"Good colors and effective DOF. Acceptable composition, although it's cropped just a bit too much, with the roosters foot and the dog's tail truncated. Exposure is fine. A good entry for this challenge subject."

The challenge was "Odd Couple". My first comment was made on my first day of membership, 03/05/2006. My vote was a "9". The photographer has not participated since 12/31/2007. I like what I said. I'd offer similar constructive criticism today.

My first comment:

Wow, this really does look like a dancing figure. Very feminine and intriguing shot.
I do hope more people get it. I am personally not voting.

"The first photo I've viewed and the first I will have ever judged as I'm new to this - but meeting the challenge set I feel this image has nailed it. Well done! 8 from me"

Ha! I didn't know how to vote and as I wasn't a Member at the time I couldn't vote. I thought that by stating what I wanted to vote in the comments was how it worked. Fortunately, I only made that mistake once so sorry kvickrey if I gave you false hope of an 8 vote.

First comment made:
Now you can actually have the car that is on your desktop :)

That was fun. I don't even remember seeing this image.

"I would have liked it better without the cactus on the right. The texture of the stone and the texture of the left tree are very harmonious. The cactus is too dark, too blobby, and too intrusive. If it could have been framed without the cactus, I would have given it a 10--the rest is wonderful! Thank you for entering it."

I didn't know about topaz, sharpening and halos. There are some major halos around the tree.

"Nice idea. I didn't even realize exactly what I was looking at until I read the title. The bling shining through the curtain is especially nice."

"I like how just enough of the head feathers are properly exposed to define the head, then fades to overexposed parts."

my comment: "What a cutie. Unfortunately, the shadows on his face take away from the focus and make it hard to see him. Without the shadows this would have been a great picture. I can't wait to see more of this little guy."

"Hard to tell the connection with the subject of the Challenge - the woman doesn't necessarily look poor, nor do the people around her. That said, it does evoke some emotion and good composition."

I used to be so critical. :)

Ha! MY very first comment was to myself. I didn't know that you could add comments to the photog notes and put my thanks in the comments section.

My first comment for someone else's work was a single word:

"Road????"

Boy, have times changed. Incidentally, that was his last challenge.

'An absolutely wonderful photograph. Great contrast, composition and depth of field. Perfect sense of semi-life and movement in the Creature itself. Fantastic stuff. My choice for the Blue. 10.'

Still one of my favourites.

"I love the color on this...so brilliant & vibrant. Excellent cropping and perspective. How many shots did you take before capturing the wings just right etc.? Great take on the challenge. This is one of our top picks."
I didn't comment on the first couple of challenges I entered, but this one grabbed me. I miss bandit. Loved his images of his cat bandit.

Hm, interesting idea.
My first one, but I don't go back so far at DPC:

Comment:
Haunting.
I gave it a 10.

A great picture that haunted us more in color but still striking in B&W

Magnificently bold composition. What can you do with hair like that? If you have it, flaunt it. Importantly, the subject is up to it. There is a strength of personality that is apparently quite capable of supporting this manner of portrayal. I would like to have seen the rest of the necklace and a little less dead space above the head, but you got the lateral placement right IMO.
