It seems like just yesterday that I bought my Fujifilm FinePix S9000 and started to really have some fun with photography.

Now admittedly I haven't picked it up as much lately but my daughter did, I passed it down to her //www.dpchallenge.com/profile.php?USER_ID=36215, Ellie and she's actually entered a couple of challenges since acquiring it and done pretty decently as well.

But alas, the other night I went to plug it into my computer and the port to put the cable in, popped down inside the camera and now it won't power up at all. :(

We took it to the local shop and they said we could only send it to Fuji but I know that won't be worth the cost to fix it. I've had this one for a good 6 or 7 years and put it through quite a bit.

So now we are on the hunt for a new camera for her. She is taking a class at school (can even develop her own pictures from a film camera!) and doesn't want just a simple point and shoot like the one I use now a Sanyo VP-S120 so if anyone has some good suggestions where we can go to get her a good inexpensive DSL or even a DSLR it would be greatly appreciated.

Keep in mind, we don't have a lot of dineros so I am talking good but cheap! :)

Thanks all
Deannda

I have a Pentax K-1000 SLR and 50mm lens (think it's f1.8), though that may be a little too old school. If no brand preferences otherwise, Nikon has many good entry-level cameras. Hope this helps!

Are you looking for something similar to the S9000, with the giant zoom range, or does it matter?
Also, what did you mean by "DSL or even a DSLR"?

B&H has some great deals on refurbished Nikon camera's. D60 and D40X are both under $400 for just the bodies. So that may be an option. Looking at getting my son one of these and maybe an 18-200 for him to learn with.
