Would anyone be interested in a post processing side challenge? As we all know, post processing is almost as important as in-camera techniques at times and it can be the line between a good photo and a great photo.

Each week someone posts a new original file and everyone has a stab at it and posts their editing steps along with the picture. Feel free to join in and have numerous tries at it.

Very interested in this one as I am just starting to learn Photoshop CS5.

Very interested. I feel a little blind not having any feedback from the post processing I use. Challenges are not very effective for feedback and they probably aren't the proper place anyway.

I would enjoy this! I'm in!

Sure, count me in. I always enjoy seeing what different people do with the same subject.

Yeah, I'm in as well. I'm using older versions, but hopefully something I do will be a contribution.

I love to do these. So, let me play when I can.
I still like CS3 and Nik is a regular part of my act these days...

I would do it but I'm gonna be out of town for 5 weeks, leaving in a couple weeks, so I'll just have to peek in from time to time as connections allow.

I'm forever signing up for side challenges, then never getting round to taking the photos. Still, I think I'd better give this one a try.
04/24/2011 08:27:58 PM · #11
I haven't done a side challenge for a loooong time, I want to better use my CS5 and topaz filters so count me in ;)

Post Processing is an area in which I am so lost. I would like to give it a shot.

Ok guys thanks for all the interest!

How can we go about doing it?
I was thinking of If I start it off by me posting an original and for one week, people edit it (you can do numerous edits if you wish) and then at the start of the next week another person (I will write down week numbers next to the members name, if they haven't posted by monday night, i will fill in for them and post an original. The week starts on tuesday) will post an original and so on...
Please can editors leave comments in their pictures to say what steps they did and on what software (it doesn't have to be exact, just say 'played with curves'). Also feel free to ask any questions on the forum it self so we can help each other out on how to do different steps.

I'm away from Wednesday till Monday so If we say that the week starts on this tuesday (tomorrow) and every tuesday afterwards someone provides an original file.

If you have any better ideas please say, I've never done one of these before.

Ok guys let's get the ball rolling, I have uploaded an image which is at the top of the page (you can view it at full size and download).

Just post your edits here and a week today MargaretN will post an original etc.

Sorry I'm away tonight so I won't be replying but I hope you guys no what to do.

This was just a first rough attempt

It is a bit over-saturated and there are some ugly grey patches in the sky that I am having trouble dealing with. I will try to come up with something better sometime this week.

I'm up for it. My efforts will very likely be pretty pedestrian compared to some others ;-)

Second attempt - high contrast black and white

I tend to favor lower saturation and less contrast. My PP from the original:

And some ideas with a different crop:
