I'm not clear on the basic editing rules. Do they allow you to rotate an image? on axis? arbitrarily?

| Any amount of rotation is allowed. If you are using the crop tool in Photoshop. you can rotate the crop marquee and crop/rotate in one operation. |

i would say yes,
they allow almost anything that you do to the entire image
no spot editing |

Is there any way to see a preview of the rotate with the crop function so you can eyeball the change?

Well, you can see the crop marquee, and in the newer versions of PS the area outside the crop is dimmed to help isolate the picture. I think to actually see it rotated you have to execute the crop, and UNDO if it doesn't look right. |

You can actually see it as you rotate, I'll chuck another question in here, can you use the perspective selection in basic editing ?

No, perspective correction and skewing the image are not allowed in Basic Rules challenges.
As a general guide, if it involves changing the position of pixels relative to each other, it's not allowed (except for the specifically-allowed filters); if it involves changing the color of the pixels it's allowed if applied to all pixels equally. |
