today I just bought the Canon G2...and yes it was $$$!!
I need an excellent camera for taking close/clear shots on
jewelry, but am not sure if I have made the right choice.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
THANKS!

Gordon has done some jewelry shots with a G2, I believe. Check out his profile and gallery :)

I think the difference in a good jewelry photo vs. a bad jewelry photo is in the lighting and not the camera. Ask some nice jewelry stores what lights they use and you will see that they typically do not use normal bulbs. They use special bulbs that similate sunlight, if I remember correctly. It has something to do with the colors in the light and how they prism out when they hit diamonds and stuff.

I could be totally wrong about this, someone correct me if so.

One of your fellow DPChallengers wrote a great article on how he shot his winning advertisement-quality watch photograph... it may be of some help if you haven't seen it already.

I'd certainly agree that the G2 is technically capable of taking wonderful photographs... the real trick is in the technique.
