SB 1246 by Sen. Jim Norman, R-Tampa, would make it a first-degree felony to photograph a farm without first obtaining written permission from the owner.

According to the article, this would make it a felony to photograph a farm from the side of the road. Don't Florida lawmakers have anything better to do with their time? Or, maybe this is a high level response to Coryboehne moving there. Don't they know this will just encourage him, and make cows into his new favorite subject to photograph?

I can't wait! Think I'll pop over to the farm country this weekend, as long as they pass that bill quickly anyway...

(what f-ing idiots, why do we pay these people again?)

That's a great new law. It will stop all those other photographers from shooting in my territory, and make my current collection of sunsets much more valuable by the law of supply and demand.
I think that up to 30 years in the tank is a bit stiff though. I also noticed that the brilliant senator owns a chicken farming operation, so it's just another "chicken $hyt" law.

First degree felony = 30 years prison. For snapping a picture of a barn or pasture or orchard? Insane!! And probably unconstitutional too.

LOL. But seriously, it's probably a filthy operation he doesn't want anyone to see. .

I do like some of the comments:

If you want a picture of a sunrise then buy some land and wait for sunrise....
There has been TONS of money made off of photos taken of stuff that may very well be all that some poor old farmer has left.... and he'll never see anything from it!!!"

"I, for one, am glad that our politicians have finally stepped in to stop the blatant and shameless exploitation of farm animals, both male and female, for their bodies. EVERYONE knows that Farm Animal Porn (FAP) is a serious problem in America and across the world....and yes, even in Florida!

You'd better be careful if you start collecting and publishing photographs of naked animals with "everything" exposed. Cows with their milk titties exposed and chickens with huge breasts! And nothing to cover these body parts.Think of the children for gosh sakes!

And don't forget the underage and young animals like calves, baby horses, and chicklings who are exploited for their bodies everyday! We should have STRONG laws protecting both humans and animals from things like COW PORN and other things too disgusting to mention in a family oriented publication.

Not to mention farm animal internet webcasts!....For money!!

So I applaud this law as a step in the right direction towards limiting common sense and the shameless exploitation of animals for their bodies.

this message brought to you in part from Moo-over.org"

The other "benefit" of this law is that if the farm (especially larger, more commercially orientated ones) is doing something illegal/unethical, there can be no legal photo evidence . ..

That, of course, is the entire impetus behind the proposed law. These people have a lot of problems with PETA vigilante types. Books about factory farming practices are getting a lot of hype lately. Animal-cruelty YouTube videos are going viral. Etc etc.

That also might be the key to the solution to these kinds of idiotic laws. At least from that senator. Here in NC we had a senator very high in the leadership, who'd held his post seemingly forever. He got a law passed saying that every five year old had to see an optometrist before they could start kindergarten. Even kids in 100 percent care situations, (nursing home) were checked by optometrists and some even got glasses, when they had no optic nerve connection between eye and brain. (Blind) Turns out the senator was not only a optometrist himself, he was also the top person in the optometrist organization in the state. After people realized this bill had been passed, (most people pay no mind to their civic responsibilities) they started checking out this senator. And surprise!!!!!! He was involved with all sorts of illegal activities related to his job, legislation efforts, and re-election efforts. Amazingly these legislators have more audacity than our most effective generals. Because people never seem to pay attention to legislation, these crooks think they can get away with anything. This senator is now serving time in jail. And because his stunt was so stooooopid and pissed off so many people who don't usually pay attention, other NC politicians were investigated. And surprise!!!! Other crooks were found all over NC state government. A few went to jail. The past Governor only missed going by the skin of his teeth. The current Governor had to scramble madly to quickly reveal some information that might have led to her demise had it remained secret, and discovered by others.

So don't fume at these stupidities when they are revealed. Take them as the gift they are and investigate.

Sheesh.... here is hoping that this proposal does not make its way into Canada.

If they made this retroactive... I am doomed.

As if we need any more proof that the world is crazy. Jim Norman can spit-polish my zoom lens.

PS: snorting at the puns in this thread. :-D

I think we should just follow around the good Senator and take pictures of him and his farm.... He's clearly hiding something, let's expose it! :)
