The one for my city wants some of my shots printed large & framed for lobby & elevator areas.

Do these associations have budgets? The Lakeshore condos here are in the millions of dollars I think.

Their budgets may be a public record thing if you know what to ask for. They may also be working from a grant. I would think that they should be at least willing to pay market price for them.

When you own a condo you pay a monthly fee to cover certain costs. Snow removal, trash removal, grounds maintenance, etc. It all depends on what's written into the contracts when they're built what you are paying for and will be different from one condo association to the next.

Condo Association is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of all common areas and the exteriors of all units, as a rule. Common areas include lobbies, workout facilities, recreation rooms, pools, tennis courts, putting greens, all that stuff. The association will be responsible for furnishing and/or decorating the common areas. The association will have approved a certain amount for the acquisition of the art for the common areas. The amount, of course, will vary depending on the "wealth" of the association; obviously high-end condos spend more.

Market price, for sure, and if they won't pay don't sell.

Thank, I figured something to that effect.

if you can find a residential homeowners association to buy your prints, charge those crooks as much as you can.

If Condo Associations are anything like Master Planned Community Associations, and I think they are, not only do they have budgets but they have pretty hefty ones.

Every Condo renter/owner in the association pays monthly dues earmarked for property maintenance and purchases of RARE, EXPENSIVE Strikeslip prints. ;)

I'm hoping to sell them this one as well.

Yup... that one should fetch a premium price!

Your post is sort of like asking "What is a rectal thermometer?"
Others have given excellent answers. I'd suggest you charge extra for signed prints. There is significant cachet for a condo association to have exclusive things - works signed by artists (sculpture, lighting, art work - both painting and photographic).

Not sure I'd show them the triptych picture below until their check has cleared...

Generally it consists of a bunch of busybodies with nothing better to do than to tell everyone else what flowers to plant.

That's actually the definition of a HomeOwners Association.

My condo association is made up of all the owners. We elect a board that does all the work. They hire a management company to do their work (lawns, cleaning common areas, etc.). The board can spend the association funds. The board also makes rules like dogs must be under 25 pounds, no smoking in the garage area, and so forth. Be ware of how many people are in on the final decision of what art to purchase. It may require the approval of a certain percentage of the home owners. You might have to appeal to the common masses (flowers, bugs and sunsets).

Actually, I was just thinking about having our association create a public art project. I was thinking more in the lines of outdoor sculpture but we have a heck of a lot of indoor walls to fill up. Stikeslip, do you mind if I print out your submission to show them? I'm sure that would excite them and get the project rolling.

I think PETA is a codo association, they're always talking about saving those California Condos.

There are rich condos and poor condos. I'm the president of the condo association for one of the poor ones. We are self-managed; the board members volunteer to do all the work that would be done by a management company. We have an art project that puts art on our walls; all of the works were done by members of the association and contributed to us without charge. We are too poor to buy artworks. See our web site.

If you are dealing with a rich condo association, you should certainly expect them to pay your full rate for prints. But if they are a mid-level association struggling to make the place look better without raising the dues, you might consider charging a lower price in return for having them labeled with your a note saying that you have prints for sale and giving your web address. If they have a public web site, you could also ask that they link to your site.

Yeah, they're really the same thing, the only difference is fewer shared walls.
