Good deal for anyone interested...

So tempted! The wireless flash triggering is the feature that is piquing my interest. Can someone chime in if they have used this extensively and how it performs?

I've used it, though not extensively. Very easy to set up, and it works like a charm with my 580ex and 420ex.

I bought my 7D on craigslist for 1395 and it came with a 28-135 and a 16g card

I guess I could check the official specs on Canon website, but is there a range limit on the signal? If so what is it approx and also does it work optically with the pop up flash?

The camera body "signals" the flashes using light, the limit is the point at which your speedlite can no longer see the flash of light from the camera body.

You can use (or choose not to use) the pop up flash in conjunction with the off camera speedlites.

So I just read that the pop up flash can control from a distance of 23 ft away. Is this the same as the "signal" you are talking about, or is that "signal" greater (depending if the flash can see it of course)?

the pop up flash is the signal ... but the 23 ft away is misleading.

In bright sunlight, the speedlites will have a lot of trouble seeing the pop up flash from even 10 feet away ... but in the dark, the range could easily be 60 feet or more.

RE: 10 feet
Really? That's terrible.
I'm not terribly familiar with Canon flashes, but does the 580 have a slave mode you can put it in? I've found with my Nikon gear that if I start getting misfires with the CLS system, I can switch it over to dumb slave mode and get some increased reliability. Of course then it's all manual and you have to adjust each flash separately.

honestly I dont understand why people deal with it. Its not worth sacrificing range for me. Until better range and more stability when shooting outdoors, I will still with just radio wireless triggers. Ive messed around with it on my 7D and its almost too much of a hassle.

It's a nice feature for those who don't do much in the strobist area. I used it when I was starting out but quickly learned of the limitations. It is great for a quick off camera flash shot but as you get into more elaborated setups you will likely go for a radio trigger.

yes ... the built in wireless flash system is an indoor feature in my opinion

cactus v4 radio triggers are cheap and work very well for outdoors (no ettl)

Just note that it's not Amazon selling...I checked to see if it's one of the camera store scammers, and I think it's odd they don't have them listed in reseller ratings. Store name is "Click Go and Buy".

There are positive ratings for them on Amazon and buy.com, but I did find this by google search. It indicates a high rating, but of three posted comments, three are very negative scammer types...

So make sure you do your own research on the store.

Yes this is all good info. My interest lies in Hi speed sync. I have the AB cybersync which I can use with my flashes for radio firing, but the sync speed of course is limiting when shooting outdoor in broad daylight. I was hoping this might be a solution to buying Pocket Wizards for the TTL feature.

Nikon's CLS suffers from bright light outdoors as well but my experience has been more positive than hopper's and others. As far as keeping high speed sync it's either PW's with the sock for 580's or Radiopoppers.

Why would anyone deal with Buy.com. Their "List Price" is $900 dollars OVER the Canon retail price. Then they include their cheesy disclaimer description of their list price as an excuse to make the customer think they are REALLY getting such a great deal.

They currently have the list price of the Canon 7D (Body Only) as $2600.00 and claim at their current price offering you're saving over $1100.00. What a bunch of crap. Their price is on par with Adorama and B&H as of the last time I looked a couple of weeks ago. What you are saving is a bit over $200 dollars from what is was when released.

Personally, when I see deceitful ads just to try and sucker the consumer I refuse to do business with that place. Is the current price of $1479.00 a fair price right now for the camera...yes, but when I get mine it will be through B&H or Adorama where they have always been up front with me and not treated me like an idiot. Just my opinion....
