I guess we are in winter lighting now because my nice set up with a pole lamp and poster board is not working as nicely as it did just a few weeks ago.

How much shadow is permissible in stock photography?

Any ideas how someone who is studio-less (still!!!!) and has to rely on posterboard, a pole lamp with three lights and end tables for their set ups? (For now. I'm a victim of the flood of March 10)

I would buy another three lights :) from the hardware store. Lights that are as bright as you can find. You can also try buying a cheap tripod so that you can use a long exposure to your advantage. That way you can use very little light and still shoot at f/5.6 ISO 100 for example but have the shutter at 1 second.

If you have a little bit of cash to spend you could buy a cheap set of lights like alien bees which would last for quite and can perform well even when you are buying more expensive equipment.

If your shadows are too hard try putting a bed sheet between the light and your object. This will cut down a lot on the light hitting the subject so you'll need a tripod but it will make the shadows a lot softer, which is necessary for stock.
