I did these last night and today. I read an article in digitalcamrea about sketching in psp. I don't have a graphics pad so I couldn't do them their way, but I did play around and did these two. They are hand drawn with my mouse in psp. Would someone look and see if they look ok for a beginning effort? I would appreciate any comments, good or bad.
Thanks
The original is in the gallery. He was the first one I did. I learned from this one that I have to do the details last. I don't think his hair looks good.
Did this one today. I don't think I should have added the grain and the shirt is mostly from the photo.

Wow...that's amazing. You did that with a mouse? I'm stunned! Half the time I can't even click on a box the right way... what talent! Those are simply awesome.

Fantastic! Those are wonderful, both of them! Wanna show me how? Oh wait, my mom and my daughter got all the drawing talent, my horses end up looking like bad dinosaurs! ;)

Thanks guys. Could anyone offer some ways to improve them? I've never taken any art classes and don't know much about drawing.

I can't believe how stunning these are. Unfortunately, I'm not well versed in PS or digital resampling techniques so I can't offer much in the way of suggestions. You definitely have a good eye and lots of talent.

Remarkable, Pat! Your disclaimer of no particular drawing talent falls by the wayside. Do pursue this field with pen/pencil.

FREE TIME!!! What the heck is that anyway????

Seriously though, those sketches kick butt!

I can't draw to save my life, that's one reason I have a camera.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks, again.
Spazmo. That's why I have a camera, too.

those are nice but am i getting this right - you didn't sketh those from scratch but manipulated the photo?

Either way, that's a steady mouse-hand you got there nice job!

Depends what you mean by manipulation. I drew everything as a separate picture. I did set the black points using the original, specifically the center of the eyes and the tip of the nose. After that the original was used as a reference in another window. I did end up using the shirt from the guys picture because I didn't want to try and draw the plaid. I might end up doing a plain white shirt later.

I don't have any formal art training, but I think these are fantastic (I could never do anything like this!). Looks like you have a whole new form of artistic expression to pursue:)

try to draw the same face(s) on paper.
you don't need a book to teach you how to draw - it just comes out.

So all you did was trace these with a seperate layer over the photo? As stated by others, try drawing it on paper without the guides from the photo. It's all about getting the correct proportions.. distance between eyes, length of nose, width of lips etc. etc. etc.

Here is a 20 minute gesture I did of a classmate in my life drawing class (before I dropped out) after 2 months. Done in black and red konte on pink paper (to simulate skin tone).

Didn't finish the mouth since I ran out of time. We were supposed to keep our eyes up since we were posing while we were drawing. My model kept his eyes down 98% of the time. I just draw em like I see em..
