I'm sure this thread has been done before but I'm always on/off with DPC - stupid life keeps getting in the way. :)

What's one of your favorite submissions that tanked in the voting?

Whether it's a different interpretation of the challenge or a technique that didn't fare well with the voters what's a shot of yours that you really like that scored in the bottom part of a challenge?

For me my take on the challenge "twisted" didn't go over so well in the voting, but it's one of my favorite images and it stretched me a lot as a photographer.

For some reason I do not wholly understand, I absolutely love this nightmarish photo. The voters hated it and let me know. I would not change anything about the photo though.

Cool thread! And because rules were made to be broken (and more than one of my favored "children" tanked, I'm posting 3 images I love and didn't receive much love:

from my first year here. I LOVE this shot, but almost nobody else did. And I really don't know why.

Due to stupidity (not naming the image something folks could search easily), this image did poorly with the general DPC population, but got the attention of the PH crowd.

Possibly my favorite and most underrated image ever. I can't explain why exactly, but this image was a turning point for me. I remember the afternoon I took it and how suddenly I was looking at everything so differently. This scene happened as I was turning around, and the light had just hit the back of the tent. A few minutes later it was all dark again.

I have more but these are two that I felt pretty strongly about.

I love this image

and this one (my all time lowest percent).

Funny how it hurts when you love them and they aren't appreciated.

Here's a few that I absolutely loved... and were deemed mediocre by the DPC community

If there is one thing I've learned here, its to shoot for yourself. I really don't care how an image scores, what's important to me is how I feel about it... And if I love it, that's all that matters. That's not to say that a little validation from the DPC crowd doesn't make me smile, but I look at my photography like midget porn, It's not for everyone... :)

One of my many sub 4 shots. This was one of my first "successful" intentional camera movement shots. I thought it was perfectly titled and fit the challenge fairly well, but it's abstract and abstracts are always hit or miss... for me, usually miss.

I liked the blown colors and thought it gave the shot a Leroy Neiman effect but the voters hated it.

Ended up losing the brown to whiterook...

I don't know if this will count but I liked this one. I entered my own interpretation of "wild bird" :)

It didn't even really tank, but I'm really quite pleased with myself for submitting a picture of bloody animal guts and managing a good decent score with it...

I really do have to wonder how many people knew what it was, and how many were just happy with the overall effect...

Here are some of my favorites that didn't do well:

I loved what the negative did to the textures in the grasses

I think people thought that this wasn't a street shot -- but this is a taste of what Duke of Gloucester street is like. Shops like this one. (otherwise known as dog street to the locals)

I expected a higher 4 than what this received.

Here are three that nailed the challenge, are technically okay, and still were waaay down
in the 4-row...
4.38... 4.41... 4.43

Challenges: From the Top Down, Macro w/o bugs, The Moon
would I submit them again? You bet. I really like 'em.

Most of my recent portfolio is DPC unfriendly. But this went further.

Took several takes to achieve sharp focus and good composition, creating a technically correct photo.

Might have scored better with a shapely female model instead. ;-)

Hard to choose a fave amongst so many, but for now this one will do, mostly for conceptual reasons.

I'm fond of my prairie entries, but they've never scored terribly well.

I know that it's a landscape that many are not terribly fond of, but it's a place that has always been interesting to me.

This got creamed on the average vote, but it hit it's target audience, with a commenters average of 7. The comments were great and I consider it a success.

324/378 5.04
76/86 4.7 This was for Stars and not enough people understood that white marks on horses' foreheads are called stars, regardless of shape, so of course DNMC.
4.8 I can remember being very excited about this image - before voting - but I still like it.

I quite liked this one, but voters not apparently

Oh and this (although I thought this was DPC friendly, just goes to show you).

Scored under 5 and was printed on Canvas at 20x30 for the client. A favorite because it brought something better than a ribbon. It brought a memory for the couple and a paycheck for me. :D

Voters don't like:

Disturbing

Rude

Scary

or Blurry

One of my own favourites, it did mediocre in the challenge to which it was entered, and few here or elsewhere on the net like it much. However it looks great as a print on glossy paper, matted in black, black frame ... I sold it to a doctor who has it in her office now :)

I knew that this one would nose dive, but the softness in color and form work for me.
