Registration will begin November 24th. Please include: Entrant's full name, Parent's Name in the Elementary Division, Usernames, Email, and full mailing address. This information needs to be PMed to CowtownMom. You will then be sent a registration number that you will use throughout the challenge. After the challenges close, only your first name and age will be shared with your picture.

Thanks to all who are interested. I hope we all have lots of fun encouraging out Junior Photographers.

My girls are really excited about this and already making plans for what they would like to photograph! Thanks for putting this together.

I am glad that the girls are excited. I was hoping that would be the case and that we have a HUGH turn out of Junior PHotographers.

Thanks for all your support and interest.

I don't quite get how this is going to work, logistically. Do all participants have to send their pictures to you for posting? AFAIK you cannot attach an image to a PM, so it would have to be done by regular email, or some other alternative ...
11/22/2010 10:08:17 PM · #10
No, Each kid will be given a number that they will use to submit their picture and explanation in the Challenge Thread. ( Haven't opened them yet) If they want to change their picture then the can edit their original posting.

By using a number then the viewers and judges don't know whose picture is whose or how old they are.

This way, people can comment and share with the kids. I'm hoping that this might cut down on confusion and will maintain 'the only one picture at a time' rule.

Hope this clears things up for you.

No -- when anyone posts something to a challenge thread, their username appears on the left.

Unless you have a single person posting all of the images under their name only, you can't have the same anonymity found in the regular challenges. And kids who are only Registered Users (not paid members) don't have a DPC Portfolio to which they could upload their pictures.

I mentioned that to Ellen earlier this evening when she described her idea to me. I suggested doing it the same way we did the Posthumous challenge a couple of years ago, where JDannels posted all the entries in his portfolio.

To maintain anonymity, all pictures will need to be email to me and I will post them. Email instructions will be given at registration.

We already have 7 kids registered so go find that kid in your life that you can be a photo buddy to and encourage them to get creative, take a shot and have some HOLIDAY FUN!

I'll go with the original post. :D

Officially registration opens on the 24th but have gathered the info from the few that contacted me already anyway.

If you want to register and get your number, feel free to contact me. I will need a few bits and pieces from you though so here goes.

Include your Name and Age, Parent or Photo Buddy's name, DPC User Name along with both your mailing and email addresses. I will be the only one that will see all this info so no one else will know who belongs to who. You will use the number I give you for the entire challenge and only after it closes will your first name and age be posted with your picture. More info to come with your registration number so don't panic if you don't know what you need to do. By the time you're ready, you will.

A Photo Buddy is any photographer in a kid's life that wants to encourage them to pick up a camera. The Jr. Photography in the Elementary Division will use the DPC Photo Buddy's account if they don't have one of their own already. A Photo Buddy must still use DPC Basic Editing rules but is allowed to be much more hands on than a normal competition. They can help with camera settings and post processing. They will be allowed to do the work under the direction of the Jr Photographer though. Don't think a 4 year old can handle Paint Shop Pro but they CAN tell you what they like and don't like. Try not to help them TOO much and let them do something crazy if they like it.

The Teen Division uses DPC Advanced Editing Rules and must do ALL work themselves. They can get the same kind of help from a mentor that we get. So show it around, get some advice, make some tweaks but remember that it's YOU taking the shot, YOUR DPC account and Your hand on the mouse doing Post Processing.

Good Luck and Hope to see your imagination soaring this Holiday Season.
