So i got some stupid virus, its one of those fake ones that infects your computer to make you think you have really harmful stuff attacking your p.c and trys to make you buy its software to get rid of it, its a pain in the ass and i can't figure how to get rid of it, can someone please help.
As far as i know its called "scan disk" and i'll post a picture in a sec. But thats about all i know, i cant uninstall it, or delete it (i can but it comes back) and ive tried malwarebytes.....which is useless and microsoft essentials, which apparently is also useless. Can someone please help!

Those people need their heads chopped off. Don't you have the ability to restore back a few days?

I had a similar problem but was able to start up my computer in safe mode and then ran AVG, Malwarebytes, and Avast! Interestingly, each program deleted some infected files.

ETA: I run an anti-virus program every day and had no idea how this virus started as I thought I was on a safe site. A friend got the computer running in safe mode and deleted some of the infected files but after I read some good reviews about Avast, I downloaded it, ran the quick scan and found a few more bad files. I decided to run the full scan of Avast and found 2 more infected files. Two days later my husband's computer became infected with the same virus, which I fixed, and thankfully we haven't had the problem again.

Try the AVG Resuce CD. It boots the computer from a CD running a linux OS, so that any malware is dormant on the hard drive and cannot hide from a scan.

Here is a review of current AV offerings, many of them free. Some products were better at post infection cleanup, while others excelled at prevention.

I've found Spybot S&D to also be a very effective malware removal tool. This is a free one as well.

I had the same thing happen to my computer a few weeks ago. I simly restored my computer to an earlier date.

It made me so mad though. Like I am really going to by antivirus software from someone who just infected my computer!

I routinely use Avast! and Spybot S&D - both are fabulous and free.

Echo the recommendation for Spybot - solved my very similar problem, and I now run it from time to time as routine.

If you own a legal copy of Windows you should get Microsoft Security Essentials. It catches everything.

Spybot was good but MSE kicks its ass now. MSE found things that Spybot never even knew were there.

Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore....

Back it up a couple weeks ago and it should be fine.

Do yourself a favor and just reinstall windows. After you get everything setup, make an image, so next time you can just restore the image.

Every time get one of these pop-ups, I don't trust even the close box or the X in the upper corner to not do something nasty. I go into task manager and kill Firefox there.

One of these best defenses i found, is to run Firefox with the no-script and adblock add-on. I don't know if there is an equivalent for chrome, since i dont use it.

adblock will block almost all popups and no-script wont allow any javascript to run on any site without you allowing it. This can be cumbersome at first but you can choose to ignore sites you deem safe, or partially run scripts. its pretty intuitive and after a week or so of surfing you tend to have allowed all the safe sites you would visit regularly, so its less intrusive, its really good for safegaurding against that one occasional site you hit from a search you've never been to before.

My wife hates it, but we have never gotten a virus, and i have been known to visit some shady sites on occasion.

try malwarebytes

This will sort it out. Safe mode first, then run it again in normal mode. No need to reinstall windows.
