Well, that's what makes it a challenge, right? I voted about half the challenge right after rollover. I found a lot to like and many people found an effective midday shot.

........so what's the word on here in regards to views/votes.
If 5 is "average" then a 5 isn't a bad photo, it's just not awesome, or really on it's way to awesome. I'd think below 5, you probably either have some technical issues, or the cabal just don't "dig" your idea? If I'm at a 11 & 6, that means that over 50% of the people that saw my photo think it's JUST above average. Honestly, I'll take it, all taking that photo did was make me realize what's missing IN IT...so I'm going to take another one JUST FRO' me on Saturday!
Should I leave comments when I vote, what's the etiquette? Who the hell am I...to be critiquing someone else's ideas?
Is a 50% view/vote ratio normal?

nononono, a 6 does not mean "just above average". If you look at the results of challenges, only very, very few get a 7 or above. When one of my shots gets over 6, I consider it a successful, very happy shot. If you look at the results of challenges, and see that the range is around 3.8-7.4, you'll realize that a 6+ shot is definitely at the upper range of scores. It's also an incredible score for a first challenge! (Though, don't get too comfortable with it. Scores can change drastically over the week. For better or worse....)
Commenting is greatly appreciated! Definitely comment. You don't need to be a master photographer to comment. Photography is about connecting with the viewer. Your opinions are just as valid as the next person.

Steve gave me the best break down on scores not long after I started in this thread.

6.0-6.5 A really good shot with broad appeal. Most members are thrilled to hit a 6 in any challenge.
6.5+ Killer shot, this getting into ribbon territory. |

Mine actually started lower climbed close to a 6 and now dropped like a rock. I guess with this challenge the entries are varied quite a bit so I am guessing the fluctuation will be greater. But I still don't understand voting and it seems no one ever will. |
