For the last year and a half, I've been working with a citizen committee to save some of the farmland around where I live. During that time, I've had a project brewing in my head of photographing vegetables and fruits in people's hands to show the connection between our food and hands (to combat the idea that our food comes from the grocery store.) One of our local organic farms was having a fall festival this Saturday and I went out and started getting some shots. Oh man, they're coming out so nicely! I have no use for them yet. My thought is that I should be getting model releases and I'll give them a print of the image in exchange. If I ask for a model release and I, as yet, don't have a specific purpose for them, do you think people will be willing to give a release in exchange for a print? Will most people feel comfortable signing it not knowing where, how or even if it will be used? Thanks for any advice you might have!

It's my understanding that unless the person is recognizable (and that would be face... not hands) AND if you're trying to use it for commercial purposes, then you'd need a release.

If it's hands and nothing for profit, then you're good.

Will wait for others to chime in.

One of the images I have is a pumpkin in the hands of a little boy and he's peering over the top with his big blue eyes. So cute but definately recognizable.

It's my understanding that it depends what you're going to do with it. Selling them as stock without a model release is definitely not a good idea, neither is using them for advertising/distribution. You may be fine to exhibit them but you should probably get their permission first.
