i already read the rules. But I want to know more about it. What editing are allowed in basic challenging? Desaturatio, exposure, etc, anything.. what are the limitations

Generally, if it's an "adjustment" which changes the color of the pixels, it's allowed. Examples are Levels, Curves, Hue/Saturation, Channel Mixer.

Anything which involves "moving" pixels around -- filters or painting/drawing/selection tools -- is not allowed (except a few listed filters -- see below).

Cropping, rotating, sharpening and blurring are allowed, as long as they are applied to the whole image (no selections). You are allowed to add a border, by applying a stroke or enlarging the canvas, but not using a "clip art" frame or frame-creation plug-in. Do not add type when editing.

Also, anything which happens in your camera is OK.
