Hehe I saw that yesterday, holy wowzers... I couldn't believe they don't use any safety gear...

Here's another one for those afraid of speed.

Do you think they climb down or parachute? Must be much harder to climb down.

I admire the people who do these jobs, but do question their sanity! Me, my knees tremble if I look down at my own feet:))

Oh Hell No! I got dizzy watching that. Not enough money in the world.
Which makes me wonder how much hazard pay they get. . . whatever it is, it is not enough.

I am not afraid of heights but I would have stopped at the first change of rung size.

Cory, they both are using safety harnesses. No company would let their employees do this without one.

That's hard to watch without feeling involved.
I used to work on hi rise apartment construction in the early 70's when hard hats and regular lace up boots were all the safety gear you wore to work concrete column pours along the edge on the higher floors. The video brings back some of the gut feelings from those days. If you do it on a daily basis, you tend to focus on what you are doing instead of where you are or how far down it is.
You can die just as dead from 10 ft off the ground as you could from 1/3 of a mile up. You just get longer to think about it on the way down from way up there.

That's quite a good thing in another context. ;)

Actually, they're not clipped in at all times. The narrator even mentions it. Look at how fast he moves up the ladder-like parts; no way he's clipping and unclipping every few feet. To some extent, being able to move fast is more safe because you don't tire out as much.

And yes to the OP: I'd love to be able to do that!

Actually, while they're wearing harnesses and hook to the structure when they stop for a break, most of the climbing in this video is "free" climbing; they aren't attached to the structure by anything other than their hands and feet.

I wonder whether that invalidates the tire warranty? ;)

Fantastic driving!

You'd think someone would engineer a zip line of some sort that is built in as part of the tower. They must have been pretty convincing that this is the only way when they plead their case to OSHA.

Yeah, looked like a ton of fun.... I just want to know where someone learns to drive like that? Although, the NYC taxi cabs I've been in weren't much different.

All I have to say is to hell with that

I would have been fine on the inside part...but when he started crawling up the outside and then getting up to the very top......That is not for me

The helmet cam made that more vertigo-inducing than it would actually be to do it yourself, but there's no way most of us would have the strength and stamina to try it.

If I was wearing a parachute, maybe.

1700 feet isn't much time to deploy and land a parachute and the extra weight and bulk would probably be the cause of your fall.

1700 feet is plenty, and modern parachutes aren't that heavy. I'd just wear it in case of getting too tired to climb DOWN. Then I'd base-jump on purpose. Falling accidentally, of course, would mean death anyway. you'd not fall outward, you'd just fall. Banging against everything on the way down until, most likely unconscious, you got pushed out to free-fall.

That's unreasonable. The tower-climbing one, I mean. The driving one's unreasonable too, but the tower-climbing one is just plain unreasonable, you know? Can you tell it freaks me out? The driving one looks fun, unreasonable-but-fun. But the tower-climbing one, that's just... UNREASONABLE!

Excuse me while I try to bring my pulse rate down. That was just... unreasonable!
