I wish to know pros/cons of Studio lights like Elinchrom,AlienBees Vs. flashguns/strobes. Can a photographer have a studio only with flashguns?

Is there any specific skill required to handle flashguns than studio lights? Any information on this will be helpful for me.Kindly share your experience over it.

Really comes down to sheer power vs. portability....

Hi

I am not that good nor that expierenced, but here is my 2 cents...

I started of with a Nikon SB900 flash that I used off camera... I found the set up needed complicated settings and the results not that good. The flash just did not have the power. I think you need a lot of skill to work with flashguns only. The skill needed is a vert good ability to set up highly complicated technical components and also a deep understanding of how light works and how to set your camera to make the most of the light.

I then bought a set of Elinchrom Bxri500 lights, and wow, so easy to set up and I could see a vast improvements in my photos. Lots of light, even to much and very simple set up and very basic settings on my camera. I get very good results even without using a light meter.Every thing just make sense..

Kind regards

I have two Elinchrom, and I'm very happy... very good light, fabolous the Skyport transmitter, not so expensive but really effective flashes...

the main reason to use flash kit like mine, is the quality of light, the pilot light (for still life shots is a must), the continuity of light.

i have also 2 SB-900 with the remote controller SU-800, but i prefer the flash kit...
