Hey fellow members i just had a quick question

For the oxymoron challenge i went with a Black and white theme as it seemed the right thing to me considering the title "alone together"

However my question to you is was it the right move to chose black and white over color? i am not so certain anymore and would appreciate some feedback

This is the color version:

(note this photo was taken on my old canon EOS 1000D as my 5D mark II is currently being repaired)

BW is better because it attenuates the posters and would fit the subject well, but you should try different types of BW conversion to make the man more prominent. He is very well visible on the color version, but he gets lost in the dark in the BW. The key is to control your B&W conversion;

I took your color version and made two BW conversions:

Select just the green channel, convert image mode to grayscale, and auto-contrast (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+L):

Or, use Black & White conversion in Photoshop, this one was made using "High contrast red filter" preset, followed by auto-contrast:

The man being lost in the shadows was the issue with it for me. Try using the channel mixer to do the conversion, or something like this free plugin that allows the same kind of independent adjustment of all the color channels:

This way allows more control over the brightness of all colors, and raising the reds would have helped the face stand out a bit better.
