Does anybody out there have suggestions for my upcoming trip into the US southwestern high desert??

We are considering Northern Arizona and Southern Utah. I've already been to the Southern ridge of the Grand Canyon, and I'd like to hit the Northern Ridge. Any other areas around there that would make for a great photo trip??

Thanks!!!!

Monument value, Moab, and just north of flagstaff, there is sunset crater, and a some indian ruins. Meteor crater is also nearby, but I do not know how scenic it is, further to the east is Cayon De Chelly the White House Ruin.

Zion National Park, Coral Pink Sand Dunes Capital Reef NP.

This area is full of great place, all of those beautiful sandstone slot canyon photos are taken in this area.

Grand Gulch (SW of Moab, W of Blanding) and Canyonlands Nat'l Park are my faves. My web site has a bunch from there.

You might want to try Antelope Canyon. I haven't been there yet, but the photos of the place look gorgeous. The only link I have is //www.navajotours.com . This place is by Page, AZ, right near the North Rim where you say you want to head.

Antelope is a GREAT place - but be sure to take a tripod as exposures are often over 30 seconds. Images 1,4,6,7 and 10 on this page taken there.

Don't forget Monument Valley & Valley of the Gods, both have roads to drive through them . Monsoon season is upon us in Northern Az. so the scenery has gotten quite dramatic .

Go anywhere. My favorite spots (and you can find a lot of shots in my Zion portfolio) are around Zion National Park, which isn't too far from the Grand Canyon. Getting from the south rim to anywhere north, however, is a several hour drive!

I like Zion because it is so diverse. You've got slot canyons like this:

Canyon country like this:

And you can hike up on top to get shots like this:

It's just a very lovely place! Where ever you go, I'm jealous!

David, your Zion photos are wonderful. On my trip last month we went to Zion but left again when we were not allowed to drive any further. I assume you took the shuttle busses further in? I'm going back in September so I'm curious on what you recommend.

Antelope Canyon is a must.
If you're a hiker, Buckskin Gulch/Paria canyon is a must.
In the Escalante Staircase area, pull your car over anywhere and snap away.
If you're not a hiker, make your way to the "White House" trailhead for Paria Canyon and you will get a lot of great shots just at the trailhead.
If you are going about a year from now, look into getting permits for Coyote Buttes.
There is an amazing area called Toadstools up there. PM me and I'll give you directions.
Horseshoe Bend outside of Page is a must if you are in the area.

I just got back from that area myself. Bryce Canyon was beautiful. I love Arches National Park and Zion is very nice. Also make sure you go through Monument Valley it is one of the best places in my opinion. All I did was take the drive around it though, don't know how much more there is to do there.

I'm sure you will enjoy the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. I went there last year, there is not as many people on the north side so you can enjoy it a lot more.
