Every time I do come here and visit. I see the front page is full of overly post processed photos to the point of disgustment. I can't even to begin to list specific details. And I don't want to point fingers.
I know there is a "basic" and "minimal" rule sets but some how people are still able to use tools like vignette in post on "basic" other than to correct for lens vignette. Plus, both "basic" and "minimal" are seldom used... just look at all the challenges right now (8-03-2010) all "advance editing". Seriously WTF?!
Many of you will argue against someone like myself (minimalist) and say that is a part of digital photography. Or tell me that I am not really not good (but I never claimed to be any good) or I should go back to film. Or even quit photography all together.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

The two Exclusive Open challenges are almost always Basic Edting. Occassionally (every few weeks) Langdon will schedule those as Advanced Editing -- that's why this week they are flagged as having "Extra Rules".

No one says you have to over-process your own photos. Are you only here to win ribbons, or to have a chance to display and get feedback on your pictures?

No one is allowed to add a vignette in post-processing under the Basic rules -- many photos have been disqualified for this very error.

The Open challenges are almost always Basic Editing, and adding a vignette is a surefire DQ there. Aside from the results of the rare Expert Editing challenge, there wasn't much editing on the current entries.

I understand what you are saying, but mass appeal is not going to change to suit one individual's wants, I'm afraid. On the other side of the same fence, there was a long thread last week suggesting that basic editing should be retired. The "DPC is losing variety" thread is another entertaining conflict of opinions if you have an afternoon to spare. Buy the value sized bucket of popcorn for that one.

Just enter what you like, to heck with the outrageous over editing. Thats what I do 'cause I only screw things up when I edit.
