I have been asked if I would run the Better Than Your Average Cup knockout challenge again, so here goes:

This is a knockout side challenge to run using the Sunday challenges (if 8 or more registered users PM me requesting it, I'll facilitate an additional Tuesday comp open to anyone - perhaps with a play off between the winner of each strand).

The way it goes down:

In each match the person with the score that is highest relative to their starting average will go through. i.e. the person with the greatest positive (or lowest negative) difference between their score and their starting average will win.

The initial 'draw' will not be seeded in any way. I will use people's starting average score (used backwards; i.e. 5.2567 becomes 76525) to make an initial number-ordered list, pairings will be made from top to bottom; subsequent rounds will cascade geometrically from this initial list.

I'll utilize a triple in any round where the numbers don't allow for just pairings. That way everybody who wants to play will be able to.

Any matches which are tied will be given to the person with the higher starting average. This seems fair to me, beating a higher average is more difficult.

A non-entry forfeits the match.

Where both competitors do not submit, the person with the highest current (not starting) average will go through by default. (not that there will be much difference - but this would favour those who have improved their average during the duration of the competition)

Any late DQs which emerge after the next round has been contested will be ignored.

You must have already completed a challenge to be eligible; this is so that you have a fixed average score at sign-up.

I will check all the scores as quickly as I am able and publish the results in this forum.

The first round will be the Member's challenge announced on Sunday 8th August. Subsequent Sunday challenges will be included until there is a winner. The number of rounds will depend on the number of initial competitors.

After the first round, you won't know whether you are through to the next round or not until after rollover, so you'll need to be prepared to enter something without knowing whether you are still in the side challenge - of course it means you will have at least have an image in for the weekly challenge.

If you would like to join me in this knockout competition then please register your interest in this thread before 7pm (server time) on Saturday 7th August.

Hopefully I have cover everything.

I look forward to seeing who will sign up.

Paul

Current round pairings:

The fifth and final round match is a three-way challenge between:

VitaminB
paulbtlw
Yo_Spiff

This match is currently being contested over Skyscapes.

Good luck and thanks for your continuing participation.

Sure, I'm a glutton for punishment. Can't be nearly as much pressure as DPL.

Couple quick questions.

1) Is this single elimination?
2) Does this start with the Baby Animals challenge?

1) Yes (If I understand your question)
2) No, it starts with whatever is announced on Sunday

(To give those who only notice the thread and decide to sign up on Saturday a fair chance to shoot)

Cheers

I'd like to play :) It was a lot of fun last time and I think you did a great job of running it. Glad to see you are doing this again.
