Is it legal to clone out a shadow in advanced editing? Some stock photos that I've seen tend to have a "flawless" feel to them with no shadow.

Or would I be better of trying to get my lighting from a 12 o'clock position to eliminate some of the shadowing? Just want to make sure that I do what's legal.

There is no yes/no answer to this one ... it depends on "how different" the final result is fromt he original. Your best option is to submit a ticket to the Site Council (SC) 2-3 days before the deadline, and include "before and after" versions. You will get an officially unofficial opinion about the legality of the editing, which is not a guarantee but is pretty reliable. Submit a ticket using the Help > Contact Us menu item.

Without looking at your picture, I suggest you consider using the Dodge tool or other editing techniques to lighten but not totally eliminate the shadow.
