Okay, back from my old'n days of wakeboarding, I was always fascinated with how photographers would do sequences like this...

or

Fast forward 10 years later, and I'm in photography and now know how to do that... So I got to thinking, what other things could the creative minds here at DPC come up with for Sequences... Come to find out, its real popular in motorcross, skateboarding, bicycling, and snowboarding... but... you could use this technique for so many different things...

Motorcross example here

So... I have seen all sorts of sequences. There is even one on 1x with a bird diving in the water. Get creative with it!

CHALLENGE: Sequence
Details: Capture an action sequence by layering multiple frames
Advanced editing, but with the extra rule that multiple frames of a scene may be used (because the subject is moving). Not sure if this would be necessary, but I think it would be legal.

Thoughts?

That would be beyond so many of us -- but I like the sequence idea quite a bit.

What about a triptych sequence challenge?

Would be cool to do it with a single frame, using a manual shutter.

I've been experimenting recently using a slit cut in a board. Multiple slits should work well.

It would be over my head but I would love to see the images of those that could pull it off.

Been done already, so that would be a II challenge. Time lapse challenge

Such a thing was beyond my skills the first time, I would love for this to come up agaon.

My first shoehorn entry and my only DQ was for entering a triptych in the time lapse challenge

Bumping this three year old thread because I still think it's a cool challenge idea and for many a chance to learn a new technique.

I'm in!

To address an earlier post. This is extremely easy to pull off in post. Capturing a compelling sequence is far more challenging.

I don't think "sequence" is exactly the same as "time-lapse" ...

Agreed. I think they are two separate and awesome suggestions that can be done at different times.

I suppose this is a sequence with a single exposure:

Or is it time-lapse???

That's most likely a double exposure, or actually a triple exposure. This is achieved by using like a 30 second shutter speed, with all the lights off in the room and a black background. Then in the pitch black room, you pop the flash for each exposure. Upon edit, just read photog's notes... Yeap... time lapse I suppose, from a single exposure...

Upon edit* Apparently there was a ruleset specifically for "Time Lapse" that would work for a sequence. LINKY
An action sequence requires multiple frames be combined in photoshop. To do a sequence, you have to put the camera on a tripod, first, take a shot of the empty background, then hold down the shutter on burst mode as the subject in action passes by. Then in photoshop, choose the background image, and then layer the frames of the subject in action on top of the background. According to the "TIME LAPSE" advanced editing rules, as long as the subject isn't pasted on to a different background, it's legit...I did one awhile back, here was my shot

Please bring this ruleset back :)

Here's examples of my limited experience with Sequencing---

and

on the dive sequence, if you look closely at the final shot, the fish got away!
