I'm on my fourth web-site developer and I'm done. Like almost everybody I know, we keep getting screwed with maintenance, upgrade, problem-fixes, general lameness etc... and I've decided that I need to cut them out of my life for good. So, the question is..."does anyone here use WIX"?

I have a WIX page up on the free plan to test the interface and it's super easy but wonder if anyone else has been using them...digging or hating the service???
Let me know - S

hey there .. yes! I use wix .. it's so simple

i use it for my real estate site //www.swflpropertiesforyou.com and I'm now playing around with it for my photography which is //www.wix.com/cfdesignz/photo

my friend also used wix to get her photo business site up - she paid for the premium service

//www.inspiremecreative.com

we are both happy with what it offers

hope that helps

I have used wix before and it's great apart from the fact its is all flash which can make it slow on some computers no matter what there connection, it also has a habit of appearing "clumsy" sometimes imo. See here for some exampls of sites i have made using wix, for myself and other artists.

Right now i've went for a more simple html based site over the fancy flash wix site, as its more about the pictures than the website itself. My current website

If you have any questions or need and assistance using wix PM me and i'll be happy to help.

Also note that, because it is strictly Flash, iPad users won't see it. That means me. :P I regularly use iPad for photo site viewing when I'm not at my regular computer, and that's most of the time.

Here's the test site...

It's pretty easy. I just need to divide my galleries into 3 sections and set up links to sell prints through Zenfolio. Also need to disable my old site and link the page to my domain.

Hopefully I'll never have to talk to a web developer again for my entire life. Shoot'em all, I say...

I just checked out your site.. and was very impressed. You did it so quickly too that I wonder why you ever went to web developers in the first place. :)

I sent an email to you via your site steve, let me know if you get it. It tries to help you correct a grammatical error. It "sent" so fast I am suspicious :-)

Good looking website and it loads quickly for me. I did notice that the 'page scolling' is on your home page and bio also but takes you nowhere. It does work for your portfolio which is awesome. I'm not familiar with Wix so I can't help you on how to remove the scrolling feature from other pages.

Thanks for the looks everybody.

Bear-Got it. Fixed it. I did a lot of tweaking and set the site up in a few hours. I'll probably change that opening text but I needed to replace the latin-gibberish placeholder to see what worked (text size, font etc.) Although I suppose it doesn't look too bad...

As for the Food folder (Street Folder, Portrait/Headshot Folder) in the portfolio section, I haven't figured out how I want to lay it out BUT I also don't see the skins that usually cover that base automatically where you can have multiple folders within a Gallery/Portfolio section. Not good on WIX part because that's a common offering in these templates.

Anyway...off to a decent start. Death to ALL web-developers!

Looks awesome, Steve! Love the quote from Paul. :-)

Thanks Deb. Gotta lurve Paul...miss him too.

Outside of the customized smooth edges that web developers can achieve, I'll take this any day for the luxury of not having to deal with one ever again. I still have a lot of tweaking to do but I'm all linked up...flexible...empowered and not slave to anyone's whims, schedule, bullshit etc. The last guy I used fetches a good dollar for his work and I hired him because he's an on/off boyfriend of a dear friend, needed the work and money BUT now I'm small potatoes and not worth his time. Oddly he was using my site to market his work because of the design and he liked my images....he got a lot of work out of it. Now, it's taken him over a month to piss around and not fix a few major glitches so, I'm done with him.

Here's how it stands right now...
I just need to hook up print sales through Zenfolio and maybe a few other goodies (proper/select folders) and I'm done

Whats the lowdown on Zenfolio? How much of the take do they get? What is the cost if you purchase prints from them. My main business is purchasing prints and selling them at shows. I plan to have my own website up soon but it's not going to be a commerce site.

BTW every site posted looks really great. Is this WIX site completely free? How and can someone explain more?

Actually, it's Adobe's fault for not making a decent flash plug in. Jobs just refuses to allow crap that doesn't work on mobile devices.

OK I'm on the bandwagon. I just created a site and it was quite easy. I can see where the flash could be a problem though. It seems that the site uses the same URL for every page. I don't know anything about web design but it seems as though it's just one huge flash page that just moves through images. The only thing I've noticed so far is that the majority of my images seemed to come out blurry. I'm sure that it's an upload and cropping issue on my end though.

Figured I'd share what I made in 45 minutes. Wix website

Looked at the sites. cosmetically very nice. Load time on SEG's was pretty long. Steve's loaded fine.

A couple of things to consider with purely Flash based web sites, iPad viewing notwithstanding.

1. No one will be able to bookmark a particular page or image. Anything that is bookmarked will only lead back to the main page.

2. Search engines such as Google and Bing can not index text within a Flash based site unless there is a corresponding non-Flash version of the site. And then in will link to the non-Flash version.

Something to consider if you are considering selling prints or soliciting business via your site.

I think WIX is probably the easiest site builder , takes a little getting used to but still very good.
Here is a site I put together for my stepdaughter , hope you like it

i'm tired of web developers, too...

well, that is, web developers that don't do anything more than cobble together websites without any regard for either 1) sales & marketing and/or 2) ease of maintenance.

if you work professionally and your website does not support your business's sales & marketing, it doesn't matter how cool or slick it is. and if you can't keep it fresh and make changes yourself, you've wasted your time (and probably your money).

on the other hand, if you talk to a web developer that spends more time talking with you about how to integrate your website into your marketing plan than telling you about all the cool sites he/she's built, you're probably talking with the right person...

if you're a photographer and you want to make money, you must have a website that says more than "hey, look at my cool photos." anybody can take cool photos. you need a site that helps get across the point that people should choose to spend their money with you rather than someone else who takes cool photos.

and if you don't have a plan for explaining that, then a website really isn't going to do much for you...

Most Web developers are corporate drones hidden away from the actual people who need and use web sites.

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... The A-Team.

Then why would you buy an ipad?
