We did this type of challenge last August and I really enjoyed seeing slices of life from people here on DPC. Here is the passage written by the OP of the last one. Any interest in doing it again in July? Or maybe wait until August and make it August Snapshots II. :D

A quote from Ansel Adams:

The snapshot is not as simple a statement as some may believe. It represents something that each of us has seen -- more as human beings than photographers -- and wants to keep as a memento, a special thing encountered. The little icons that return from the photo-finisher provide recollections of events, people, and places; they stir memories and create fantasies. Through the billions of snapshots made each year a visual history of our times is recorded in enormous detail.

Rules and/or suggestions....

No minimum number of posts but try to keep it to no more than one a day.
No carefully set up set-up shots or studio portraits.
No well-calculated and executed landscapes.

DO enter everyday snapshots of your kids, your pets, your friends, your flower garden, your neighbor drinking beer, your vacation, your trip to the grocery store. Bonus points for stuff shot during the death hours of 10-2 outside, in full sun. DO remember that the lowly snapshot is the birth of modern affordable (more or less) photography for the masses. If it weren't for the lowly snapshot, none of us would have the nifty toys we have today. If you have a point and shoot, get it out and carry it everywhere. Snap away!

Editing rules - no editing rules. Resize and submit, or edit the crap out of it. All up to you!

Comments? Sure - we all love getting comments. But kindly relax the tendency to correct the technicals in this one. Feel free to react ("reminds me of my Aunt Grace's back yard when we were growing up"). No need to comment on every shot, of course, but do kindly try to at least VIEW every shot. Snapshots really do like getting a little attention, you know.

Tentative list, and it may be a running July/August theme we will see how it goes and how much interest there is.

I like this idea as all my photos are really snapshots:) July or August is good, perhaps even carry it through both months if there is enough interest??

Put me down, I'll combine it with the wallpaper sc. LOL!

I can probably participate, though that makes 4 side challenges for me. Snapshots is easy and fun, however.

Count me in - I hope to be up for this (although I will be away for a few days during the month). Thanks!

I'm in. A side challenge is just what I need to get my creative juices flowing.

If I may suggest - it would be great if the photographers would add notes to their photos so we know what we're looking at. If there's a story that goes with it, even better.

Would prefer August to July. Love snapshots. Love photographer notes, and which camera and whatever else is knowable. Thank you for doing this. (Maybe I'll really do this sc for a change!)

I love snapshots! I'm in for this.

Ill do it either way... but I have a few in July already so August might be easier!

I'd love to participate, mainly to debut my new camara.
I'll be out from 2 to 11 July for a photo workshop at this place
Can I join anyway?

I suppose I'm in, mainly to make sure my old camera continues to get some regular exercise ... ;-)

If I have made up with my camera by then, I will join in. (We're on the outs at the moment. Not speaking. Batteries are dead and I ain't charging them.)

Add me to this one. I need to get out more. With the 4th of July coming up I might be able to get some cool drunken party shots.

Funny you say that. I've taken 6 weeks off from Sports/Photojournalism to spend some time with my family. I've not taken a photo with my 1DMKIV in 6 weeks and have put almost 2K "snapshots" on my new 5DMKII. I think I might go back to work this week or next so I'm going to finally charge the battery on it. LOL

Remember to check the date setting when you finally do plug them in....

I haven't been able to take the time to put the effort that I should be into the June Macro SC, but this looks like my kind of SC for sure.
I'm in if there is room.
