Why does sometimes CS3 get stuck with a white hand thingy instead of the pointer?

When it happens, I can shut the whole thing down and start again... and still ... that stupid hand thingy. With a white glove. It's like MJ is back.

And it's annoying. I can't do anything.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

If you go into Edit - Preferences - Displays & Cursors (this is CS2 but 3 should be the same), you should be able to fix it. I had the problem yesterday of my dodge & burn brushes being crosshairs. Went in there, unchecked the boxes then rechecked & it fixed it.

This might work - but just tap your space bar - the white hand is usually used to drag around the image - sometimes it gets stuck. Works for me!

Will this work for the crosshairs problem?

Anyway... it works. THANKS!

I'll remember this non-rememberable sequence next time too! :)

For the crosshairs, hit your caps lock.

Kelli, you'd do well to remember that caps lock=crosshairs shortcut: the crosshairs can be VERY useful when you are cloning along things that have distinct lines, where you need to get continuity. Use the circle to determine how big the brush needs to be, then hit caps lock and use the crosshairs to precisely align source and result.
