This thread has been ongoing here: I vote for a midwest DPC get together!. We didn't want to leave anyone out, so if anyone is interested, leave a post here or in the other thread, or get a hold of dsa157.
Excerpt from the other thread on proposed itinery:
----------------
All - I updated my page - //www.soasoas.com/dpc - with people who I believe are confirmed for attendence. If you said "Yes" to Jul 2 availability, please RSVP with a definite answer about whether you will attend (even part of the weekend counts!)
I have marked all the "Yes" people as "Official Maybe" unless I have heard otherwise from you. RSVP ASAP, please.
Here is a proposed schedule:
Friday night:
- meet up and hang out at Navy Pier
Saturday:
- get up *early* to get some downtown shots in cool lighting and before the crowds come rolling in
- do some city walking and Architectural boat tour
- have lunch somewhere fun
- fight the crowds at Taste of Chicago and Millenium Park (?)
- watch the fireworks that begin at 7:30pm
Sunday:
- go up north to Chicago Botanical Gardens
sound good?
Dave

Questions:
Navy Peer is 1/4 mile long and on Friday night there are 20-50,000 visitor crowd .
We need exact place time and sign of recognition.
Where are folks from out of town will stay? If they are willing to spend 160-260 $ downtown hotel room ? (If is any available on that weekend )
I work on Friday night and I will take half day vacation, just need to know what time we will meet there.

people are on their own for lodging. some folks have said they are willing to provide a bed for visitors. I know Todd and Cathy Macmillan are coming up from Kentucky and will be staying in Skokie rather than downtown.
as far as meeting times, how bout someone else suggesting something? - I'm not trying to be a dictator about this whole event...

Hotel room, location, time and schedule.Even a train schedule.
I'm not "very " familiar with downtown locations available parking areas etc,we need someone who knows better. |

Here is a great map of Navy Pier. //www.lsni.org/2004convention/NavyPierAttractions.pdf
I suggest we either meet at the fountain in front (Point #1) or in the large triangualr grassy section also in front (not marked, but right in front of the "Taxi Staging area" where there is a bronze sculpture of children in a circle. Time - how bout 7:00pm? (It'll take those of us in the burbs about 2 hours (grrr) to get there on a Friday night...)

When Chicago closed the airport they said goodbye to any chances at my dollars, but I hope you all have a good time anyway.

I don't think that I will be able to meet everyone Friday night; we will be driving from the east side of Michigan (north of Detroit), and my husband has to work on Friday. But, let me know when you are meeting on Saturday morning, and I should be able to make it then. BTW, did we decide on the boat tour? I (and some others) were wondering how much it will be. Thanks!
And, where is a good place to meet downtown (mostly asking locals here)? I think that you were probably going to decide this on Friday night, but, since I will probably not be there Friday night, and I wanted to check out hotels in the area, and wanted to get a hotel nearby, I am asking. Maybe even a general location to start...perhaps a street or landmark, I don't know where exactly downtown is! Thanks!

Ken,
Do you know how much the boat tour costs? Several people have asked, including me. If you let me know how much, I can give you an answer if I would like to go. Thanks!
-Danielle
BTW-Is this what you are talking about-Architecture River Cruise? If so, then it is $25 per person, and the times for Saturday are
9am, 10am, 11am, noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 5pm.

For the boat tour, we need to reserve ... so let me know who's up for it and what time so I can walk over to the Architectural Foundation office and reserve space. It's usually a 2 hour pleasant ride. |

or both, right? I guess we need to determine who is coming in Friday.
I was willing to come downtown Friday night to meet up with people.
I know Kosta (pitsaman) and Danielle (dccloss) and Ron (ToolCool) are coming on Saturday and not Friday. Who else, if anyone, is interested in meeting on Friday?

Where is location#1?
I am going out of town tonight & will be back on Father's Day. I will check forum when I get in. This sounds like it is going to be nice. I am looking forward to meeting all.
I will also doublecheck with hubby on funds for the boat trip. |

More boat schedule - Mercury Skyline
I took this one a few weeks ago - not so bad and not as expensive as the Architectural Foundation Boat Tour.

A guided tour through Chicago's downtown river and harbor front. Enjoy lively commentary on 17 bridges, 82 buildings and landmarks. Experience the famous Chicago River locking system as you enter lake Michigan. Daily 10:00 and 11:30 am; 1:30, 5:30, 7:00 pm plus 8:30 summer weekends. Adults $18; kids under 12 - $8.
No reservations needed; they sell tickets 1 hour before scheduled tour. |

There is a fountain for kids near location #1 so you won't really miss it. Also, there is a FREE trolley from downtown locations to the Navy Pier. You can park in a cheaper parking lot somewhere downtown and catch the trolley to Navy Pier. I will again look for the schedule and stops for this trolley and scout for cheaper parking locations and other directions.
