I am about to leave for a business trip to Fargo later today and was looking for things to shoot and possibly people to meet while there. Any suggestions? I take my camera everywhere with me when I travel on business and love to see new things. This week should be pretty easy on timing as I am teaching a class and expect to get out early in the afternoons. I did find a place that showed a lot of the old ghost towns in ND and thought that might be a starting place, but am open to suggestion. Thanks.

Spring has not quite arrived yet. Since the entire region is flat and somewhat non-descript I'd recommend scouting out lakes for sunrise reflections. There are thousands of lakes to chose from. This time of year misty fog often forms above the waters just before sunrise and makes for moody images. Birds, such as blue herons, can be used for added interest in compositions or as subjects in their own right. They are easily found.

The Icelandic volcano has spewed enough particulates into the upper atmosphere that sunrise and sunset colors are becoming more and more spectacular. This should be a great year for them.

A word to the wise... don't smell the tap water. ;) In bragging about water quality the only comment you will get from the local utilities is, "It is safe to drink!"

Well...so far it has been raining all the time and not very conducive to photography. It is supposed to dry out some tomorrow. Morning shots are always possible. I may just drive out into the country and do some barn photography and see what I can do with either HDR or B&W.

Well...I found out that water-logged gravel roads and a Toyota Camry Hybrid don't go well together. I got the picture of the barn I wanted b utgot stuck in the middle of the road in mud I wasn't expecting. But was fed dinner by the farmer about a mile up the road before he pulled the rental out of the mud with his "smaller" tractor.

I hate when that happens! :-D We got stuck in a cemetery with a rental car once while taking pictures and got the car so muddy trying to get out we had to take it to a car wash after being towed out by AAA!

We drive through Fargo twice a year when visiting family in MN. Great farmland around there and lots of interesting barns.

Sounds like a firsthand experience of smalltown helpfulness. Glad you found help quickly.

Well...I posted the entire story on my blog (//www.wildertech.com) if anyone is interested. I also posted one of the shots I got DUE to getting stuck and taking the time to walk the rest of the way to get the shot. I also went driving again the 2 following days (today and yesterday) and played with HDR a bit. I think I got some great shots but am having problems trying to decide which to enter into the monthly competition.
